Rock music is very hard on the ears, and Pop music is boring. But Country has something for everyone. Whether its Rockabilly or Western Swing or those great Country Love songs. I love country bands live because they sound like the record- but you go hear Rock bands or Pop singers live they are way off key, etc. I think Country Music has all the talent. Are people just not wanting to admit how good it is?

why is radiophile so obsessed with Meade? does he find him attractive? why can't he just leave him alone?

My girlfriend loves country music, I don't hate it. I just think a lot of the lyrics are corny, but I listen to metal-hard rock. Most of the music in country is good though.

I'd go earlier than that, even. Country music today is not the same country music of 50 years ago. It's better described as "southern pop", same way we have southern rock. It's not unlike rock--the 'rock' music of today bears little resemblance to the original 'rock 'n' roll'. But, all country music today sounds like a Chevy commercial to me. Flag-waving, macho crap.

Country today is not 'Southern Pop" its not Southern at all. Country Music is an international thing now- with a lot of the artists from all over the country, or the world. Most of the country singers today are not even from the South. Taylor Swift is from PA and Shania Twain is from Canada. Alan Jackson is real country music, but he doesnt get much airplay today.

'southern pop' not necessarily as in where the music originates geographically....I mean it's more of a sound....a certain style of music (that, in my opinion, betrays what original country music was). The Band wasn't from the South (most of them, anyway), but they played what could be considered 'southern rock'. And think about reggae....there is very, very little new reggae music coming out of Jamaica, its place of birth; there's been a diaspora of Jamaican music all over the world....the best reggae and ska bands today come from places as far between as Michigan to Tokyo, Belgium to New Zealand. Same with jazz and blues. The reason there are so many non-southern country artists, however, is because there's a lot of money in the country music industry.....they always tell the contestants on American Idol, "you would do well with more of a country sound". That's because country is a safer bet for an up-and-coming artist....it operates as its own industry within the music industry. It's mass appeal, more-so than any other genre. Taylor Swift would not be Taylor Swift if not for the country audience she attracts.

If Country has such a "mass appeal" why do so many people say they like any kind of music, "except Country". Is it because its over played? Or what? Nobody ever says they like any kind of music "Except Rock" or any kind of music "Except Classical". Its always Country. And this is all over the United States- even here in Virginia, where Country Music originated.

Oh snap.. big boy, I totally see country music as pretty and delicious.

At least you know the difference. I once read a review on Bluegrass in
the Post and they said it was a "spinoff" off country music. Nothing
could be further from the truth. I also encounter people who do not
know the difference between Bluegrass and Mountain Music and it's quite
easy to figure out but some people are just to lazy or indifferent to
make an effort. Another thing that I notice sometimes are people who
think anything with a banjo in it must be Bluegrass. Nope.

like someone said before, it's become a socially programmed thing to say during the course of conversation. It's like saying, "I love to travel", or "family is very important to me" (isn't it important to all of us?).....things that appear to say something about your personality, but in reality say nothing about yourself. Just something you've heard other people say, like the phrase 'my bad' or 'shoot me an e-mail', so on and so forth......the record sales for country music bear out that this 'meme' of saying "I like anything but country music" is just that, and is indicative of nothing more than the human propensity for aping the social behaviors of other humans.
