I polish off half a bottle of whiskey every night and it’s probably 3rd on my list of unhealthy habits. I couldn’t work my 250k job without it. It’s my reset. Sure, I could be sober but would probably only be good for working in a homeless shelter or something for 28k a year.

Alcohol abuse, by which I mean overreliance on alcohol or habitually drinking to excess is seldom the cause of man's problems. More often it is the result of problems the man already has in his life. Same with drug abuse. Sometimes it is a diagnosed or previously unknown mental health condition. Quite often though it is simply a way to escape for a few hours from an otherwise shitty life. This is why alcohol and drug abuse treatments usually fail. They ween the person off the alcohol and drugs and then throw the person back into the same environment that caused that person to turn to alcohol or drugs in the first place.
