That explains why it still fits when it comes to arm length even if he is too portly to fit his torso. Looking like that is not uncommon for men of Meade's age. They get a set of clothes that they think will never go out of style, then they get fat and end up with ill-fitting clothes. It is clear that jacket no longer fits him. The drape at the pockets angle outward displaying the jacket is too small at his back shoulder blades. Also look at the bunching at the right shoulder, this tells me the jacket is being stretched in ways it was not designed to do. It is also unbuttoned, because it looks like he can't button it.

Look at how tight his belt is. His hips can no longer aid in supporting pants, so he has to make the belt tight, not snug, but tight, causing his belly to roll above.

First, he is not wearing a suit. A suit has matching jacket and pants. He is wearing what appears to be a suit jacket with blue chinos.

A sport jacket has a different cut, heavier padding in the shoulders, and usually a heavier, more durable fabric than a suit jacket. This distinction is why you wear a sports jacket or blazer on a plane, and not a suit, when travelling for business, if you can.

Meade's defining feature is his fat. When he puts on a suit jacket, he looks like a fat man in a suit jacket. The one he is wearing is too small for him, but seriously, there are far worse offenders there. Wearing a suit jacket on its own is fine for a 'casual' look, but when one is dressed up in their "Sunday best", it makes one wonder why he isn't wearing the suit pants. He probably couldn't pull them up over his ever-widening ass.

A sport coat is not tailored the same way as a suit jacket. A sport coat has heavier fabric and more shoulder padding,usually , so it doesn't drape the same.

Not the actress, the character Shelley Fabares was playing. She played the daughter in one of those idealized 1950s families that only existed on the T.V.

Sometimes innocent symbols take on a negative connotation when they are used for certain causes. The swastika is another example of that. The confederate flag is now associated with a would-be country that felt it was okay for one race of people to enslave another race of people. When folks see the Confederate Flag that is what they think of. They don't think of the 'southern cross' or anything else. They think of a time when slavery was practiced on American soil. It isn't really difficult to see where people are coming from when they find it odious.

Slavery was abolished as a result of the South losing the Civil War.
Being black in the Confederate states was guaranteed to be a pretty shitty existence. To many people, the Confederacy represents an oppressive time in American History. It can't be too hard to understand why exalting in it rubs people the wrong way.

First, Blacks fought in the Confederacy to gain their freedom. Why would they do that if slavery was so wonderful for them?

One of the outcomes of the Civil War was that slavery was abolished. This would not have happened if the South had won. You really cannot argue that keeping slaves as 'property' was a point of contention for "State's Rights".

That said, I'm glad you can turn a blind eye to the horrors of when one race of men enslaves another race of men, However, you should at least garner a little bit of empathy to those who choose to look at the good and bad parts of History. A few Blacks profiting from slavery doesn't just the evil of White men enslaving Black men.

Slavery is a blot on American History. Like it or not, the Confederacy is intertwined with Slavery. It isn't out of the blue that the symbols of the Confederacy are symbols of Slavery.

"A few Blacks profiting from slavery doesn't JUSTIFY the evil of White men enslaving Black men."

If minimizing the evils of Slavery in America gets you through the night, go for it.

But you can't be surprised when people label you a "racist" for doing so.

they felt in their hearts that they were doing the "savage" a benefice by introducing his to a real true religion. Not some Mumbojumbo voodoo religion that the Black slave and American Indians practiced. Although the Africans many times combined their belief system in a Christian cover. "Frumpy" still works well for people who look like Meade.


However, "Dumpy" connotes both "Frumpy" and "Fat".
