Things That Changed Your Life
Date: July 09, 2010 11:56PM

I saw Star Wars when it first came out in 1977. I rode my Schwinn Stingray to the theater with no expectations whatsoever. I ended up seeing it several times. There had never been anything like it before and I still consider it one of the greatest films I've ever seen...

But, how did it change your life?

I've had things which have influenced my life... but changing my life?

I guess I could say that dropping out of college changed my life because I never would have gone to that second school and had I not left that school to attend yet another school, I never would have heard my father say.... you're on your own, kid, get a job!

hello.

Aside from the usual "having children/getting married" answers: When I was a kid, I never really thought too much about music. I passively listened to the popular stuff or whatever was on WAVA (105.1), B106 (106.7) or Q107 (107.3) at the time. Groups such as The Cars, Duran Duran - that sort of stuff. Then one day at a friend's house he played Metallica's Kill 'Em All and Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind. The next day, I rode my bike down to Kemp Mill Records. I only had enough money on me for one tape, so after much debate I bought Piece of Mind. I played that tape until it died. There was no going back...I was hooked on metal forever and wanted no part of Casey Kasem's Top 40 bullshit anymore.

Now as an adult, I have all types of music in my collection and appreciate a lot of different things musically, but it's still metal that is my favorite.

That explains a lot Warhawk...personally, "metal" never got any better then one of the originals Led Zeppelin...all are wanna-be's after that...and adding stupid face make-up...well thats up there with Justin Beiber's hair.

Getting assraped by a priest in 1975-76 while I was an altar boy changed my life the most.
The worst part was that goddamn prick of a preist did to me was make me believe that the whole thing was my fault.

Sorry, I didnt mean to bring this thread down, that prick is dead now and things are better now.

Yeah, that can be life changing. Let's hope for his sake that religion is right, and there is a Hell. Because for sure he will be in it.

For me it was the death of many family members when I was young for various reasons. Grandparents, cousins, uncles, aunts. We had quite a few family deaths in a 5-7 year period, and our family is very close. It really does a lot of changing your life view from focusing on yourself, to focusing on the needs of others when you see how death in the family affects others around you - especially when it isn't due to things like old age.

I can say without a doubt that I probably wouldn't have found my calling in life if it hadn't been for this movie. It was transformative for me.

I'd have to say the happiest day of my life, one I will never forget, was the day I became a licensed Notary Public. It was from that point forward I knew my course in life was changed forever.

It set off a chain of events that led to what I do now. I can say without a doubt it was a life-changing experience.
