Have concert ticket prices finally hit the wall?
Posted by: trogdor! ()

Looks like concert ticket sales fell 17%. Not only are the offerings super weak, but it sounds like people may have had enough of the ridiculous prices and 'service fees'

And WTF is up with Justin Bieber's hair helmet? Oh, and his $hitty tour is doing Ok. There must be a lot of baby-sitting money out there.

Remember the Eagles cancelled their show at Nationals Park due to a "scheduling conflict"? It was poor ticket sales. John Fogerty was scheduled to play that place in Bristow VA two years ago and canceled because less than 900 tickets were sold. you will see more like this.

Some of these acts do the regular summer outings and still think they can charge $75 - $175 a ticket. You will see more double bills like Tom Petty/CSN, two perennial summer acts combined, to ensure people will show up.

Personally, their is very little I will the high prices to see. I would much rather attend a play at the Kennedy Center which is cheaper and quite frankly, usually a better show.

The Mark Twain Prize with Tina Fey and the Musical Hair will be my theatrical pleasures this Fall.

for select (i.e. not hot) shows and usually lawn tickets

Tony Clifton is coming to the Birchmere in October. That is something I will pay to see and get there early for a good seat. Me and the Mrs will order dinner off the menu. I hope they have fried chicken that night.

I don't understand the point of paying top dollar to sit in the sun with a bunch of annoying drunk fucks to watch some dude playing a guitar. When I was younger, you could spend $20 (including ticket and some brews before the show) and have a great time. Now, it's a bunch of bullshit.

man its because all of you old(er) heads listen to these old geezers who know they can charge top dollar and get the rich old white folk to pay.

On the other hand, a J.Cole (signed to Jay-z’s rocnation label) concert cost between 15-20 dollars and it is top of the line. p.s he produces his own beats so you know its legit.

just some input ;)

The magic number is $1 million per show. That is what artists strive for. Acts that get that much (or more) are
Tina Turner
Elton John (less in Vegas)
Billy Joel
Bruce Springsteen
Jimmy Buffett
Paul McCartney (a little more)
Madonna (just under a million, usually)
Rolling Stones (nearly $2 million per show)

The "Somewhere close to $1 million per show is
The Eagles
Rod Stewart
Pink Floyd/Roger Waters

Simon and Garfunkle (about $700,000 to $1.2 million depending on the city)

The rest of the are striving for a target number - whether it is half a million or a quart of million dollars - they are all trying to get rich. And frankly, for the most part, I will have nothing to do with it.

Speaking of concerts. Dream Theater and Iron Maiden @ The Lube in a couple of weeks. Booyah!

I wouldn'ty pay $1.00 to see any of these. These wouldn't be concerts, they would funeral celebrations. Damn the strolling bones are still around.

Lawn and others were included, but Rush usually sells out so I wouldn't call them "not hot."

Rush is the worst thing that ever happened to the world.

Technically speaking they have four. Steve Harris on base, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Janick Gers. Of those, only Dave and Janick are dedicated to guitar, Steve and Adrian are also on supporting vocals.

Ticket prices.. ha ha , How about the venue food prices..

I got free tickets to see Lynyrd Skynyrd at Nissan Pavilion, While there I ordered two beers two hot dogs and a shitty cup of fries, the total came out to $37.00!!!

Later our group went to Uno's and all ordered two large pizzas 4 beers and an appetizer that came out to $35.00

What the Fuck!!

and I refuse to call it Jiffy Lube Live. " They really know how to pack'em in at the Lube.. "
