The summit is a kick ass grill. I have one thats set up for natural gas and is connected to my home gas piping. Only bad thing about natural gas is you can only move it a few feet from the gas supply connector. I also have a Weber charcoal kettle though in case we want to grill elsewhere or just use charcoal for a change of pace.

Charcoal grilled food taste much better. Some things are worth a little extra effort.

You are right. Roasting meat in the backwoods of one of our national forests over a campfire made of seasoned red oak is even better than charcoal and requires even more effort. It's all good though.

(I'm the Weber E series guy from the first page)

No doubt at all that charcoal grilling makes food taste better. It's the hassle that makes me go gas. I can gas grill year-around (and I do), and I can do it on the comfort of my wooden deck. I cannot do that with charcoal.

I keep a Weber Smoky Joe because I now have some acreage, but over the last couple of years I've been using it as a convenient place to stand my Weber chimney starter (with smoky joe's grill on top) for some seriously high temperature searing space for beef and fish prepped sous vide.

BTW, I tried using a 90k BTU torch with a cast iron backstop for searing, and I have had no luck getting what I'm looking for.

Nice Guy Eddie,

In case you see this, check out the seller "RiversEdge" on Amazon. Whoever this guy is carries aftermarket grates/flavorbars in thicker stainless than you can get from Weber.

My original flavorbars were enameled, and my original grates were cast iron. The Amazon ones have been in use for two years now, and they are in perfect condition.

I went with a Weber fueled by NG a few years ago, after a long affair with charcoal. I miss something from charcoal grilling, but man it sure is easy to go out on the deck and fire it up, and no propane tanks to fuck around with.

When I do ribs, it is exactly the same, because I put hickory in there with them, but I'm too lazy to do that with weekday chicken or fish.

Unless you can afford a servant, go with natural gas.

My Weber has a sear station, and that works pretty well. Still not like charcoal but not bad.

I think the answer to the op's question is that charcoal grills best but the best all around choice is to have both types of grills in order to obtain maximum enjoyment from grilling and that electric grills kind of suck but people who live in apartments or condos will find that electric grills are the only option for grilling on a balcony.
Smokers now are a whole different subject.

Why can't you grill year-round with charcoal?? I do it and have no issues...you light the charcoal and go inside until the coals are ready.

Yeah, me too. Having a grill with a lid helps in really cold weather but charcoal rules in cold temps while propane struggles with low tank pressure.

Go up to the Jefferson national forest and go a few miles into the backwoods. Once there find a bunch of rocks and make a fire ring. Next go find a animal and kill it, clean it and cook it over that open fire. That is the bestest and freshest grilled food you will ever eat. Fuck charcoal and fuck gas.

You have got to use Royal oak Premium with the flavor ridges. Kingsford will do in a pinch but the Royal oak is a superior product. Off brand charcoal is good for burgers and weenies only.

The 18 inch is just right. 22 inch is too much and smokey joe is too small. Having said that I have a smokey joe for camping trips as it takes up less space in my truck and it does okay for that.
As for charcoal Kingsford is pretty good but Royal Oak is slightly better. I never use lighter fluid, I either use a chimney or when I go camping I gather a bunch of small sticks from the woods and get them burning before adding charcoal.

I have found that the Royal Oak charcoal is better than Kingsford. Royal Oak burns longer and has a more of a woodsy flavor to it. I dont never use lighter fluid you got to get a starter chimney and use paper and twigs to get it burning. I aint never had no use for a gas grill.

I made some hot dogs on it that you can buy at 7-11 for 6 bucks tops thats all it could cook when the clouds rolled in with t storm rain we also bad a can of beans cold our kitchens indoor electric stove would not work

Its on the solar power oh the t storms rain had softball hail now were going to have to replace 55 k of the solar panels

We got a great idea here at San Quentin , we can use the old historic gas chamber as a smoke shack , its made of steel and its empty inside . Its got a air tight door a great tall stack for the smoke to go out . The gov is a spineless jellyfish suck up liberal he had the double gassing chairs inside taken out to virtual signal hes the weakest on crime so its good to go for smoking some bbq

The only problem is smoked bean curd tufu good , thats all we can find here in the freaky Frisco area to eat these days

You know solar panels are covered under most home insurance policies.

Also the panels put power back on the grid so even if the clouds cover is heavy for days it makes no difference. By the end of the billing cycle the panels wipe out any cost of power drawn off the grid and then some. You never have to pay anything to the power company, in fact they have to pay you.

Dont ever try to confuse a conservatard with facts. They are always looking for something to be scared of.

Gas grills used outdoors on a limited basis may be okay but charcoal must be banned. Electric grills are best.
