Keyboard.jpeg

* women secretaries in USA used to hit 140 wam even higher, words a minute , on PC keyboards. they cannot anymore. maybe 80? china loves it when usa productivity falls

* a keyboard sloppily shaped plastic keys with spaces in-between keys allows your finger to "fall between the keys" (bad for typing speed), forcing you slow down so that doesn't happen. and they had been made of hard durable high quality smooth plastic not rough "milk container soft plastic"

* CHINA REPLACED THEY KEY MECHANISM WITH SILICON IMPLANTS, silicon mushrooms. they are hard to press down. they do fail. they resist pressing down. why would put something that resists pressing in a keyboard? because your fucking chinese.

* IBM first had springs and sway bars and a tap point and "were clicky". that didn't work well. IBM soon released keyboards which had "metal sliders" on the side-walls which registered the keystroke with no resistance, and a special spring which delicately returned the key back without preventing quick typing or resistance to pressing. A few mfg made special models for secretaries that were too expensive for the PC but appropriate for typists.

* IBM next replaced sway bars with "wide sliding columns" with TEFLON (tm, usa) and or polished steel, these slid up and down effortlessly and would not jam if hit on the side of the key. (remember, well made keyboards don't have gaps that let your finger hit the side edge of the key anyway). they kept the swaybars on two keys, improved a little. THESE WERE THE KEYBOARDS THAT GOT 140+ wam easily. the designs were taken from IBM's selectric electric typewriters: all patented stuffs.

* Taiwan began making copies of the quality IBM PC keyboard. they were maybe $40 $60. IBM'S keyboards were over $120 to replace at the time: AND WORTH IT.

* DURING BILL CLINTON, production suddenly was switched by CHINA to "silicon mushroom backed keys", no spring, and faulty mechanisms which let keys jam. Everyone wrote blogs about hating these and returning them. But soon they were

THE ONLY CHOICE. NO OTHER KIND WERE AVAILABLE. WHICH 'MADE THEM THE MARKET WINNER'. WINNER? People hated them. The competitors simply vanished !!!

People didn't BUY those keyboards they either came free with a cheap PC or were return by pissed off customers that the keyboard resisted being typed upon and had jamming keys.

* china moved to "thin design" which prevents jamming somewhat - it's also bad for typing speed.

* RECENTLY ON EBAY AMAZON china has been advertizing USA old keyboards are "clickly clickly"

(this clicky thing was not true except for early IBM PC keyboards - see the above, IBM only not say: the much higher quality Corvus or apple PCs. note these mocked at clicky keyboards were infact fast typing keyboards despite a little noise)

* CHINA TODAY is telling people their "super thin" keyboards use scissor type mechanical mechanisms. IT ISN'T TRUE. THEY USE THE SAME SILICON IMPLANTS / MUSHROOMS that killed the keyboard market during bill clinton.

* key travel was reduced. the truth is you can't "debounce" keyboard typing errors without keyboard travel. IBM has the patent on PC keyboard "debouncing" (the chip watches your pressing time and corrects mistakenly pressed keys using a wise formula - it did NOT attempt to spell, which computers are terrible at doing, which is why it worked 200wam perfectly)

* keyboard sizes were cut in half (this is ok for desk space saving but not for typists or programmers who type for hours and hours)

* note chinese have added LED to increase usa's power usage and make battery powered re-deploys impossible unless released from china that way (too much energy wasted, 0 ways to replace chips). they said it was for gamers really it's strategic lockouts "going forward"

SO ... SINCE WHEN IS BACK-LIT KEYBOARD (NOTE YOU CANNOT TURN OFF THE BACK-LIGHT FOR USE WITH iPhone LOW POWER) VERY NON-PRODUCTIVE KEYBAORDS

chinese keep talkign smack about american clicky and wasteful-ness

total bullshit

THEY ROBBED AMERICA BIG TIME - THEY'VE BEEN DOING IT SINCE BILL CLINTON

To prevent any USA "real keyboards" from being seen or found

CHINA HAS FLOODED EBAY AMAZON WITH 10,000 gaming keyboard ads.

They are $5 to $500 but THEY ARE ALL THE SAME FEW CHINESE CHEAPASS $5 KEYBOARDS.

the important thing is: they are at all prices, all descriptions, no matter how you shop ebay or amazon you can't find any competitors - you only see long lists of the same (5) chinese keybaords under 100 brand labels

because they've flooded amazon ebay like g2 gerrymanderer2 spammer floods fairfaxunderground: continually daily spamming the sites to damage any sales other than chinese sales

So - Taiwan made some good keyboards also allot of awful ones "that used the right parts but were made wrong". It was pot luck but a few were really great for about 1/2 the price of IBM's.

YOU CAN'T USE THE OLD KEYBAORDS. They used different voltage and ampheres. Plug them in and you'll kill you PC.

that was _PART_ of how the CLINTON ADMINISTRATION helped china fuck the USA hard. lack of standards and allowed imports with patent infringement - and allowing seedy retailers to "pull usa models off the shelf so consumers had 0 choice but the chinese choice"

the IBM problem was: taiwan stopped kept changing the "required" voltage and amperage so it was "a moving target" (a phrase also popular in talks about software wars). they couldn't produce a keyboard for a chinese board PC that PC stores would sell: because they didn't know what voltage and amperage might be required in the next model

TODAY - "LOCAL PC stores" (in Virgninia) refuse to even stock Intel USA made boards despite they are definitely better and also competitively priced. This has been happening for - maybe 10 years.

Now - IBM isn't the only keyboard maker and infact doesn't design keyboards for Intel: they design them for IBM. IBM does allot of outsourcing. If you order an HP computer or Dell: you'll get a chinese board not a USA board unless you Dell special make a PC with an Intel board.

IBM never conformed to the price market and eventually "gave up", they SOLD their copper chip design to china (who now uses it to make ARM / Android chips and claims they inveted it: they didn't - IBM is on the first patent filings)

get an IBM and you'll LIKELY get a cheap keyboard with silicon implants. but perhaps you can find a quality one if your rich and inquire hard with the right people ?

So, the chinese made a cheap switch/button and that's innovation: keys for everyone not just the rich.

THE HELL YOU SAY - CHINA STOLE THAT IDEA FROM USA AND EUROPE TOO

these were present "since the early days of rubber and plastic" in the cheapest of switches. they began in industrial to keep dust out of switches: a rubber mat over un-protected switches to grease out of the electronics in factories

THERE ARE THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF PATENTED SWITCH/BUTTON DESIGNS

this "mushroom" design didn't require a spring and became used in "the worst of made in calculators" or the worst of any tool needing a button. it was usa's "worst design" (but, in the day, you could take the cover off, replace the rubber or replace the switch: totally different story there ... this was before Bill Clinton admin helped insure NOTHING COULD BE REPAIRED if it was manufactured)

so the chinese used the "worst possible switch/button", not necessarily even the cheapest design to make: is what i'd tell you. they didn't implement it to protect the buttons they did it to avoid paying for $0.02 springs.

you PRESS your keyboard it offers resistance, then suddenly flops downward after so much pressure. it's a silicon mushroom. and it's the most corrupt way to make a keyboard for typing.

IBM capacitive touch?

that was a no-starter and means nothing

#1 metal contact is simply exactly as efficient

#2 it was never used to sense "strength of push" if it could do that

#3 ABOVE I WAS VAGUE. the good keyboard had vertical metal sleeves. this is selectric "just slid down without ever jamming". the wide teflon column replacement was NOT a good replacement yet it worked "pretty good" at a lower price. with metal sleves "keyboard debouncing" was "more possible" without getting into details

#4 CAPACITIVE TOUCH didn't mean a damn thing: they were supposedly lower power though really: they were not. there is a chip in all PC keyboards: chips are always "capacitive" for the purpose of this discussion, and use of capacitance at the contact is ... trivial to design. doesn't mean much at all.

---------------------------------

THE CHINESE WERE CAUGHT PUTTING VIRUSES IN PC KEYBOARD CHIPS - IBM PUBLISHED IT IT'S A NEWS ARTICLE YOU CAN FIND

THE CHINESE CHANGED ALL THE IBM KEY CODES: this made engineering software (X Windows / Xero Windows) have problems. windows 95 users didn't notice the switch since Microsoft was deep in the deals of helping china push good keyboards out of the market totally. and oh how do you get software support for non-standard chinese key mappings: FROM MICROSOFT OF COURSE

the originial IBM keyboard used some patents from SELECTRIC typewriters (IBM)

the re-release of the PC IBM keyboard by IBM used more of the typewriter features - higher quality - also higher priced. you could type at nearly any speed your fingers could manage

secretaries and pc hobbiest, both, loved those US PATENT keyboards

American's didn't stop buying excellent keyboards.

They were removed from all the PC stores BY COMMUNISTS LIKE MICROSOFT.

Consumers were given one choice only: buy chinese crap or go home withotu a keyboard.

The american companies had not stopped making them but their sales sunk to the floor because of WALMART (Hillar was employed for) and PC stores who targeted USA companies for attack by the chinese.

Hello, an accidentally spilled drink on a laptop keyboard threatens with serious damage to your device, and food crumbs clogged between the keys are a beneficial environment for pathogenic bacteria. Therefore, those who like to eat without looking up from the monitor screen will definitely need a universal macbook air keyboard cover. The film will ensure the safety of your device from food or liquid, and keep the keys in a well-groomed condition.

old and new keyboards can be put in the dish washer. i've done it many times over many years

(note - allow a week to dry do NOT use them the same day)
