Almost no one who grew up around here sounds like that, and the ones that do stick out like a sore thumb. When I hear someone talk in that accent, I automatically delete 10 points off their IQ. That's a true Virginia accent. ALL Virginians east of the blue ridge speak that way.
Fairfax is so transient that most people who consider themselves natives today have no idea what it was really like 50 years ago.
I knew a boy from Fairfax who spoke like a true Farifaxian. He went to school there and he told me that his high school actually had a course that removed Southern accents.
Can you beat that? Anyways, he said most of his friends were able to change but he wasn't.
