G. Gordon Liddy, a key figure in the Watergate scandal who later became a popular radio talk host, has died at age 90.
The Washington Post reported Liddy died Tuesday at his daughter's home in Virginia, according to his son.
Liddy first came to public attention as the head of the "Plumbers" unit and burglary crew that broke into Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate building in 1972. The burglars were caught by a security guard and eventually the scandal and coverup unraveled the Nixon presidency.
Liddy was convicted of his role in the Watergate scandal and served 52 months in federal prisons. He later converted his infamy into a role as a talk show host for 30 years.
