Scientist have labored without success for nearly a century for a vaccine for the common cold. COVID is in the same family as the common cold. There is a school of thought that many viruses that trigger a harmless cold were at one time dangerous to humans but became beneign over time. It's had been observed those with Neanderthal DNA which includes White Europeans and some Asians have some degree of immunity to the virus's most severe effects. Evidently something similar to COVID is on the Rolodex of ancestral DNA.
