Heating your home with fuel oil is stupid and will hopefully become illegal soon. Most furnaces or boilers that use #2 heating oil are 75 to 92 percent efficient. Newer heat pumps are 250 to 350 percent efficient. It makes no sense to heat with oil.

IDK about that, my heat pump does not even have emergency heat and it keeps the house at 72 degrees even when the outdoor temperatures are in the single digits. Mitsubishi says that it is good down to 30 degrees below zero outside but I have not tried it in those conditions. My electric bill in the coldest weather is about 120 bucks a month.

Heat pumps are prone to failure by design. A good oil furnace will last 20 years or more.
