If student loans are forgiven once, how could they not continue to forgive them for students in the future?
Posted by: thinking person ()

If they do a "one time" forgiveness of $50,000, that can't possibly be the end of it. Students just starting college will demand loan forgiveness as well. They might even take out loans with the expectation that eventually they will be forgiven. The only way loan forgiveness would work is if there was also a policy change to make college much cheaper for students going forward.

Ask Ronald Reagan

The reason this country is overrun with illegal immigrants is that Ronald Reagan gave amnesty to every immigrant in the country illegally in 1986. Now they know if they stay long enough, it will happen again.

There will be no loan forgiveness for future students, because there will be numerous checks implemented to ensure no more runaway spending on education. No one will be able to get a federal student loan that is tantamount to a blank check. Schools will be forced to cut down on their administrative bloat.

I paid for my fucking education. I deserve reparations.

If you blow up your credit card limit, you have no discipline.

If you run up your line of credit at the casino, you're fucked.

If you borrow excessively on a distinguished education and now you have a sore ass, too fucking bad, so fucking sad. I would give you a participation trophy.

I married an unappreciative bitch, where's my refund?

The house I have costs too much, can I get a rebate?

No one forced you to get married, go to the casino or buy more house than you need. For a very long time, employers would not hire anyone without a college degree, most still won't. In a pay to play system, you don't have many choices but to "play the game". student loan forgiveness, to a certain amount will free up our economy and will allow people to buy homes, consume, start families, etc. That's a win for all of us. Life is not a zero sum game. Don't know why some people have a hard time understanding this.

So then people need to figure out if going to college is a worthwhile investment in their future. Don't know why some people have a hard time understanding this.

They are doing that. It is too later however for the people that have already gone into debt because of this. Don't know why some people have a hard time understanding this.

You didn't have to take a loan to go to school. If you agreed to the loan you should pay it off. Why should I or any other tax payer be responsible for your irresponsibility? The reason your college loans are so expensive is because of Obamacare.

If democrats hadn't of forced people not to work everything would be fine.

Nothing is being forgiven. Your selfishness is hurting Americans.

This is how I propose we solve the student loan debt boondoggle:

Do not simply "forgive" any debt that is accrued.

Take a look at the debt all have run up and calculate what they have paid towards interest. Interest is what keeps people in the debt, not the actual cost (in most cases).

If the interest paid is equal or greater to the principle, write it off as "paid".

For all others whose situations do not apply to the above, suspend interest and require the debtor to pay solely the principle.

From here on out, no one should be given what is tantamount to a blank check when it comes to student loans. The amount loaned should be predicated on the student's GPA. The better the gpa, the more you can take out.

Community college should be free to all who wish to attend for the first semester. The amount they are able to take out in loans should again be predicated on what their GPA first semester of CC is.

Curious.

I generally dislike your points of view.

That said, I did like your idea.

I paid my debts. To me it was affordable.
Linking debt extension to current academic standing is appropriate, If desperate enough, we already know the extent to which some will go to get their spawn enrolled. Don't doubt that GPAs could fetch a nice price, too!

I'll mark this day.

Its more complicated than that. The whole current student loan system is a trap designed by Albert Lord when he was with Sallie Mae, a formerly government (now privatized) company established to help students. Albert Lord designed the current student loan system to keep borrowers in debt for their lifetimes while his (now privatized) company collects interest and penalties. Albert Lord is no longer with Sallie Mae, having cashed out with more than FOUR HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS and moved to rural Maryland, where he has a private golf course. And I don't mean that he belongs to a Golf Club, I mean that he owns property that includes a legit 18 hole golf course exclusively for his personal use.

So, is everyone irresponsible and/or stupid who were trapped in a web designed specifically to keep them in debt for their lifetimes? That is the question.

If the federal government can require institutions of higher education to cut down on their administrative bloat, why can’t they cut down on their own administrative bloat?

People spend more on a car than college. Is college expensive? Yes. You can thank Obamacare for the high interest rates. Even a mechanical engineer will make $80k starting. In 4 years you can get your license and the money and opportunities are great. It's an investment in ones future. You'll look back on it and say, "My Escalade cost more than college" and laugh.

The idea of forgiving interest but requiring payment of principle seems like an ok compromise.

You make the new students sign a loan agreement where they have to pay it off for real this time. No do overs.

Of course they will, and you can't blame them, and then it goes on and on, it perpetuates itself. Only way out of it now is Nationalized Education System. That's the only way out of this "Biden quagmire". Pretty much painted himself in a corner with that ,

How do you ask for loan forgiveness for a loan you haven’t even applied for yet.

My student load makes me feel so bad.. It feels like I will never pay it off. This is pretty depressing stuff. I even had to get a payday loan to pay off my debts. Hopefully, there are some good services like the one from https://stormgrams.com/ which are ok in such situations. But use those only when there is no other ways out. I regret going to college now lol

Hello, if you received a loan, you will be obliged to return it along with interest, no student loans are never forgiven, of course there are exceptions, but very rarely. Before you get a loan, you first get a pre-approval for a personal loan, by the way, you can read more about this in the article on Fit My Money. After that, you sign an agreement, which clearly states that you are obliged to return everything and in what time frame, and for non-return there will be bad consequences for you.

I agree, it would be unfair. But what's the best solution in your opinion? Personally, I don't know. If I get a loan, I pay it off. Shortly speaking this situation has its own advantages and disadvantages. By the way, if someone looks for a reliable online service to et a payday loan, I recommend this one https://maybeloan.com/payday-loans/mi
