Turkey thawing guidelines

The USDA recommends thawing your turkey in the refrigerator. This is the safest method because the turkey will thaw at a consistent, safe temperature. This method takes some time, so allow one day for each 4 - 5 pounds of weight. If your turkey weighs 16 pounds, it will take about four days to thaw.

Pfft! Just put that frozen bird in a deep fryer and it will be thawed and ready in no time.

I bought my turkey breast yesterday to beat the FUCKING INSANE MORON rush that will be happening from now until the Tuesday after. I fucking HATE people in holiday haze, brainless, in their own bubble, other people are only obstacles to them, they push, bash, rude, fuck, mouthafuk!!... Idiots. They drive like idiots, they shop like idiots! They talk on their phones while checking out IN THE SELF SERVE LINE!!! They yak on their phones at green lights! They have 60 items on the 15 item express lane... PEOPLE ARE FUCKING STUPID!!! AND EVEN WORSE AT HOLIDAYS!

So I went yesterday, bought my frozen breast meat turkey, put it back of the fridge, bought a 1/4 ham, some Mrs Smith's cobbler, boxed stuffing... and hopefully the bird will be thawed and ready by the night before... or before.

We are cooking it in the crock pot this year. First try for that. They say the slow crock pot will make the meat EXTRA juicy, not dry.

btw- the secret to using crock pots? Crock Pot liners. 6 to a pack for about 3 bucks, line the crock and it keeps the muck from melding to the crockery. The time to do this is when the crock is new. We upgraded to a 7 quart crock, have been using the liners and it still looks brand new, compared to the old crock which looked like Meade's toilet, which he just cleaned 4 years ago, but there it is... YIKES!!!
