Can you go to a trade school in your 60s?
Posted by: 11th hour callings ()

Im 32 now, but im trying to plan ahead for what ill do when i “retire”. Id like to do something a little more blue collar & work with my hands when I retire & i was thinking of becoming an electrician. Im in pretty good shape now and i plan to be in good shape in my 60s, so I figure this could be a good fit.

I don't recommend it. People like you usually end up electrocuting themselves.

Nah I don’t think so. Safety standards in the industry are good as is. They’ll only be better 30 some years from now.

Thirty years from now we will be throwing rocks and spears at eachother. There will be no electricity....there will be nothing.

Of course! Personally I think that it's never too late for studies! So go there and do it, I'm sure that you will be able to study there. Besides, if you have any problems with your writings, then I recommend you to visit one special website there because there you will be able to get some information and help as well.

I would not plan on it.. no one will hire someone fresh out of trade school as a helper apprentice who is in their 60s.

That sucks. Many people need to work into their 70's. Where the hell are they supposed to work. Their aren't enough Walmart greeter spots for them all. Sometimes life throws you a curveball in your 60's, but nobody wants to hire them, and they aren't old enough to collect social security or qualify for medicare.

30 years from now, life extension technology will make 60 the “new” 30. People will be living to 150 and even possibly forever. The workforce is only getting old and as population decline becomes more evident, employers will need to rely even more heavily on “older” workers. OP will likely be in prime position to work well into his nineties if he wants to.

I would start now. After the pole shift and Planet X passage, the only jobs around will be in building and related industries because everything will have to be rebuilt on the planet. Get a jump start on it.

They indeed will be and even longer. In fact, there are people alive today that will reach 150

That's not in 30 years dumbass. So someone who is 120 years old today, in 2020, will make it to 150 years old by 2050? Not happening...

You will not be allowed to matriculate. Trade school slots are reserved for kids who have their whole life ahead of them. Not some overaged, underqualified guy who is confused with what he wants to be in life. The world does not revolve around you, there are deserving kids out there.

I love a guy saying, "I'm 32 now, and in pretty good shape" as it relates to what he MIGHT be in another 30 years.

Hell...30 years PRIOR, you couldn't speak, walk, or do anything for yourself!!

That's a lifetime of change...how many pro athletes who were in great shape in their 30's are lardasses when they're 60?

A lot. What you are at 30 has very little bearing on what you'll be at 60.

As someone else mentioned, when we finally reach singularity and radical life extension becomes possible, there will be 90 year olds with the appearance and stamina of a 20 year old. We aren’t that far off.

In my opinion, a person can get an education at any age. And this is commendable. However, at the age of 60, a student may experience problems and difficulties due to memory impairment. I think that such students should try cheap custom writing service for the best possible academic performance.

Not so. Read up on the work of David Sinclair and Aubrey de gray. Very soon, you will have people living to 300 and possibly older. It will be very feasible for someone in their 100s working in the trades.

No, you had your chance, why take a seat away from some youngster just starting out on life. You want the best of both worlds. Kinda selfish.

You can’t “take” a seat away from someone who doesn’t want to sit in it. No one’s joining the trades.

There has never been any lifespan increase much beyond 100. Check back again in 100 years. Nothing will change before at least then.

Stem cells and genetic engineering and shit won't change that in the next 60 years. We haven't got a clue, and it doesn't look like one is coming anytime soon. But 100 years is far enough away that things might be different by then. But actually, probably not.

I had a friend who got his head frozen for someday in the future. I don't think he believed it would work, either. But figured what the hell - already dead, why not try to be a Farnsworth. Maybe Zoidburg will defrost him in 1,000 years.

My nephew is a senior in high school, and he's been learning the auto body trade.

I think he'll do OK, because people will still need to get auto body work done for the next 50 years. But that's around the time that people will no longer be owning cars (or be allowed to drive them on regular roads). It will all be robot cars, individuals will not generally own them, and the car manufacturers will own the fleets (and maintain and repair them). There will be no auto repair places, no car insurance, no car dealers, etc. It will be a vertical industry where all vehicles are owned by Toyota, Tesla, and maybe one other company.

I wish it was here now! But the "self-driving" car tech we have now is nowhere near good eough. The only way it will really work is when humans are not allowed on roads. And that's coming.

Some of the top scientists in the world disagree with you. Read up on the research done by Ray Kurzweil, David Sinclair and Aubrey de Grey. We already know how to extend lifespans to at least 120. It’ll be here in 30 years.

Should you? Probably not. I went through the electrical apprenticeship. It's not free, your employer often pays for it or reimburses you if you pass with a C or better. You have to have so many documented hours in the field. Tbqh most of the older people didnt make it past year 1, and its 4 years non union 5 years union. Year 1 is like basic hand tools, basic power tools, rigging and hand signs, vocabulary, and basic math. Surprisingly most people who had long since graduated failed basic math pitifully (we're talking 23+58 or 9×8)

I've read the stuff you're referring to.

> We already know how to extend lifespans to at least 120. It’ll be here in 30 years.

(1) No we don't.
(2) In 30 years, FXU will be archived on the wayback machine. So come back then and tell me I was wrong.

I also did research in genetics at Harvard Medical School. Perhaps you are not familiar with the phrase, "We'll have it in 30 years!"
It means: "No way will we have anything like this in 30 years. But that's so far away that we can claim anything. I need funding now, please!"

I've used that one, myeslf!

Sounds like you really don’t know what you’re talking about, but whatevs. Look, if you’re so anxious to become worm food, that’s on you. I’ve got things to accomplish, places to go and I plan on living to at least 250. Do more reading on what he methuselah project has accomplished. AI and quantum computing will help us get there as well.

op sounds like a vaxtard, so he will be dead from clot damaged organs or aids like illnesses before he hits 40

then you have this idiot thinking science will have people living forever

interesting how bible has max age listed at 120 and virtually NO ONE makes it past that age

We do you people keep fighting this? It’s almost as if you’re content becoming a decrepit old fuck who can’t do shit after 70 and are okay with kicking the bucket earlier than you need to.
