Trump says it will end up saving us from COVID. Not quite sure what "herd mentality" is, but it sounds like something Trump's base would be good at.

Saying things like "herd mentality" does make it harder to accept the notion that it is Biden who is cognitively challenged. But it does make clear what he is thinking when he looks out over one of his rallies.
You are correct about one thing, though, the hatred of Trump you describe is real, and quite widespread. Call it "TDS", or whatever you like. Very similar to contempt. Trump saying shit like that certainly contributes to it.
When you have Trump as an opponent, you don't need enthusiasm.
