Meade is right about those parish jobs IF HE CAN LAND ONE.
Suppose Meade somehow loses weight, takes more than one class a term and gets that degree in a few years. He is going to have to compete with a bunch of his younger fellow graduates. They won't have the baggage of being Meade.
Same is true with Meade finding a wife. There are'old-fashioned' girls out there. They are few and far between, and they can write their own ticket when it comes to finding a man whose children they will bear. What will Meade have to offer one? Security? Companionship?
