“People you know” were able to do that 15-20 years ago before outsourcing and before boomers decided they wanted to keep riding the good paying gig gravy train into their 70s. You cannot really start at the bottom and make it to the top anymore. You’ve got to job hop, reskill and possibly move to climb up the latter, which isn’t doable for a lot of people for different reasons. The corporations are solely to blame for this as they are more concerned with bringing in returns to their investors than the one’s doing the actual work. Though I know businesses exist to bring in profit, their undoing of the American worker will come back to haunt them in the end. It already is. Boeing is regretting outsourcing their software dev ops to India.
