Newt Gingrich, provocateur in chief

He has a doctorate in the social sciences and taught briefly at the college level. He has been married three times, divorced twice and confessed to an extramarital affair. He has never worked for a profit-making organization, never served in the military and lives in one of Washington's poshest suburbs. He is the very personification of his much-reviled "cultural elite." He is Newt Gingrich, and he is out to get himself.

Gingrich has been on something of a tear lately, brandishing the term "secular-socialist machine" with the elan of William Jennings Bryan declaiming about a Cross of Gold -- and, God willing, with the same effect. He used it recently in a Washington Post op-ed laced with the sort of gloating demagoguery that makes Gingrich his own acolyte. The man rides a pogo stick. When he is over the top, he just keeps going

Did Gingrich fuck this guy's sister or something? I don't like Newt any more than the next left-leaning individual, but damn.

Cohen is being too kind. I know Gingrich taught at the community college level, but I'm not sure he ever taught at a real university. Also, he asked one of his wives for a divorce when she was in the hospital with cancer. Family values at their finest.

He taught at Kennesaw State and the University of West Georgia. Not exactly academic powerhouses, but hardly community colleges.

Like I said, I wasn't sure. Not super impressive in any case, given his resume.

I think you are referencing his current wife, Calista, who lived in Fairlington (34th St. S) above Shirlington, back in the 90's.

I remember one time Newt bought a brand new white Escolade at Lindsey Caddillac and then went to Calista's apartment to pick her up. The neighbors just stared at them getting in the car, and he sped away going at leat 50 MPH in a residentail zone. Calista got a lot of complaints from neighbors about the speeding, and she soon moved.

I thought that was his ex-wives place, the one he ditched. The people I knew seemed to take her side for whatever reason.

my point is this. Political parties basically LIE to their constituencies. They sell talking points and an agenda to the voter, "base" that doesnt have anything to do with policies they enact when in office or how they conduct their own lives. This goes for Republicans, Democrats or some talking head on the radio such as Rush Limbaugh.
