Im not suggesting I needed my friends approval but lets be honest, in your 20's you have many close friends who you have known half your life - they matter as much or more than any woman you are dating. Also there is some level of competition as to the quality of women each of you dates. I always valued intelligence the most but there was a limit to the weight and looks I would date. I had standards.
Also recall my argument that this is for 20somethings - you should not be obese any time of life but to be obese in your 20's is simply not ok and bodes a future of illness. Finally, dating is what you do to pick your mate - I didnt want a mate modeling obesity.
Being obese is an illness by definition. If you are obese as so many Americans are you are very sick and need to get better by whatever means.
