what the fuck is a "no-hitter"?
Posted by: Mr. Misery ()

...just curious. I hear the term "no-hitter" and I have no idea what it means. Isn't the point of baseball to hit the ball? And how is it exciting to NOT see a baseball player hitting the ball? Isn't more exciting to see the player score a home run goal? How is baseball entertaining? How do you watch it? They're always standing around, rubbing stuff off of their shoes and adjusting their cleats. Then something happens, for point five seconds, and then more standing around. I don't get it.

A "No Hitter" is when the pitcher manages to complete a game or inning without pitching a ball that is hit by a batter.

baseball, golf, football, basketball, hockey, fishing, are all boring to watch. they are much more fun when you actually do them yourself.

a "no hitter" is self explanatory really.

Goddam, Pack-Doofus, you really are a pansy-assed know-nothing piece of shit. A No-hitter simply means a pitcher (against all odds) goes a whole game without giving up a HIT. Numerous balls will be HIT by the batters, but no batters will reach base safely via a hit---only a walk or an error. Many "hit balls" will be fielded by the defense, but for outs, not hits.

Next time, Pack-Dumbass, don't post unless you have a brain--but that would mean not posting at all, you fucking retard.

A no-hitter (also known as a no-hit game, or colloquially, a "no-no") is a baseball game in which one team has no hits. In Major League Baseball, the team must be without hits during the entire game, and the game must be at least nine innings. A pitcher who prevents the opposing team from achieving a hit is said to have "thrown a no-hitter". Throwing a no-hitter is a rare accomplishment for a pitcher or pitching staff: only 264 have been thrown in Major League Baseball history since 1875, an average of about two per year. In most cases in MLB, no-hitters are recorded by a single pitcher who throws a complete game.

As it is possible to reach base without a hit (most commonly via a walk or error), a pitcher can throw a no-hitter and still lose the game, although this is extremely uncommon. A game in which a team allows no runners to reach base at all is a perfect game, as well as being a no-hitter and a shutout victory.

A lot of girls (and people new to our nation) don't understand the difference between a hit and a pop out etc. They think if the bat hits the ball it is a hit regardless of foul status or if it is caught out by a fielder.

There are different ways to get on base, I don't remember all but I will try

-base hit
-error
-hit by pitch
-walk
-intentional walk
-fielders choice
-balk

I am not sure. but I think if a runner reaches base thru an error, fielders choice, any of the above besides a base hit, it can still be a no hitter.

Am I wrong?

You can reach first if the catcher a) drops the third strike, or b) interferes with the batter's swing.

b) I can't remember ever seeing, but I only watch about 10 games a year and it sounds right.

Thats correct. There is also the case of Doc Ellis throwing a no hitter while tripping on acid. Which, if you think about it is pretty amazing.

You cant reach first on a BALK....only runners already on base move up a base on a balk.

You can also reach first on fielder interference; i.e, the fielder gets in the way of the runner to first inappropriately.

B) catchers interference happens in MLB, but not very often...usually its the catcher reaching in to far to catch a pitch, and the bat hits the catchers glove...first base is awarded.

A no-hitter is a fat chick nobody wants to have sex with. An example...

Dude 1: You gonna hit that?

Dude 2: No. She's a fat cow. She's a "no-hitter."

I don't think I've ever seen it happen in the majors, but it happened to me once in little league. I think I almost broke the poor kid's hand, and was rewarded with a free base!
