I think the guy was slowly breaking the kid in. Start off with getting the kid familiar with pistols, then AK's and one day graduate to a suicide vest.

His family members were probably smacking their heads and wailing at the funeral over this "tragedy." Of course, I don't consider something a tragedy when the victim creates a perfectly ridiculous situation that results in his own death. Kind of like I don't consider David Carradine's death to be a tragedy given how he died.
