NAKED ART EXHIBIT
Posted by: Alias ()
Date: April 16, 2010 07:42PM

The Museum of Modern Art in New York has been having trouble with visitors touching the live art (naked models) in a current exhibit called "The Artist is Present".

"An unspecified number of patrons have been ejected for groping performers since the exhibit opened on March 14, but none has been arrested, and there have been no calls made to 911. The exhibit features 38 performers in rotating shifts of eight facing each other at a doorway or lying under a skeleton or posing in other pieces, mostly in the nude."

Not only "Not Hot", but it took a toll on my vision, which just went shot on the spot from the moment the page took a scroll drop. Owww.

this is typical "look at me!" New York modern art bullshit. Let me tell you something...if you can't draw, you are NOT an artist. End of story. It's appalling how many "artists" there are who pull this kind of empty conceptual crap and can't even draw.

This is not art. Learn to draw, then we'll talk.

That's just bullshit, Miz... Plain and simple...

What about painters... paintings aren't art? Or writers... Poems aren't art? Music isn't art? Your beloved foreign movies... they aren't art?

I don't have a problem with considering non-drawers "artists"... I just have problems with anyone pretentious enough to call themselves "artists"...

Edit: Sculptures aren't art!??

let me clarify: I didn't mean, if you don't draw, you're not an artist. I meant, if you don't know HOW to draw, you're not an artist. All painters, all sculptors, even photographers (the good ones, anyway) have a foundation in drawing. Any art school you go to, no matter what your concentration (painting, photography, graphic design--whatever) you're required to learn a foundation in basic drawing. My point is that, along the way with modern art, this foundation was basically thrown out the window in a lot of cases, and what you have as a result is a whole generation of young 'conceptual' artists who do stuff like this naked art exhibit, but couldn't sit down and produce a decent still-life or gesture drawing to save their lives.

Painters draw....Da Vinci didn't just sit down and paint the Mona Lisa...there are thousands of drawings by Da Vinci that very clearly illustrate his knowledge in the foundations of art...countless illustrations, exercises, anatomical studies. The same goes for sculptors...Rodin didn't just sit down with a block of marble and a chisel and go to town on The Thinker...he had a lifetime of discipline and exercise in the basics of drawing to back it up...you have to be able to think in two dimensions before you jump to three. A lot of these conceptual, modern artists today don't have that...and to me at least, it shows.

And I'm limiting this to the visual arts...of course poetry and film and music is art...but when we talk about art in this context, generally people mean the visual arts. You have to learn the rules before you get to break them. It's like a person wanting to compose a piano concerto before learning the basics of HOW TO PLAY THE PIANO....you can do it, I guess....but it's gonna suck.

umm, Harry, Mr. Misery is correct.

umm, Harry, if someone is an artist should he call himself an electrician?

After reading his clarification, I understand where he is coming from... but I still disagree.

When people say "End of story", it is very rarely the actual end of the story. End of story.

Maybe... What kind of artist are you talking about? There are some very artistic electricians out there...

This art exhibit isn't real art, it's garbage slapped together and called creative.

Blessed are the murderous.
