Materialism has always been about filling a void in one's life. Some people find religion or start a family, others find comfort in fast cars and expensive clothes.

The problem is everyone of us is materialistic to some degree. If you don't want to be, just take the same path as former Annandale HS grad Christopher McCandless did and give up all of your possessions.
