Here's the math of what's going to happen in the next month if nothing changes:

The number of new infections is doubling roughly every 3 days. On March 28, 2020 there were 21,000 new infections in the US. Going from there, on April 30, 2020 there will be ~ 40 million new infections on that day alone, giving a total of around 82 million infections since the start of the pandemic in the US. If the death rate holds at around 1 percent, that's 820,000 dead. A few days after April 30, the virus runs out of people to infect.

The rate of new cases per day so far shows no sign of leveling out. It had better. Just to give you a for instance, if there are no changes, there will be 1,280,000 new cases per day by April 15.

Someone at my job suspects they are infected so they call up the doc and is told they have to go through a process to see if they “qualify” to get tested. Told it’ll take at least 3-5 weeks. Coworker says symptoms aren’t severe so they’ll just “ride it out” and self quarantine. I suspect there are tens of if not hundreds of thousands of cases like that where people are probably infected but don’t have a chance to know for sure.
