Some days Drudge looks more like the E! network than it does a legitimate news source. He seems to get on the celebrity gossip bandwagon way too often.

Illness forces Whitney Houston to postpone concert...

TIGER WOOD$ WEEKEND: 'Hopefully I can prove I am a worthy investment'...

Who cares?

Apparently Yahoo! and Reuters find it newsworthy as well.

Apparently they don't have it on their front page with a headline.

Looks to me like Reuters is the author of the article and the pic is one
of many in a slide show. Maybe they should have re-ran this one instead.

God, Drudge is an idiot. I rarely check his site anymore but was trolling around for something interesting this morning and had a look. His main "story" is a link to a Politico piece this morning that Drudge is hyping as evidence that Obama may be a one-term president. Drudge either didn't read the story, didn't understand it, or figures that his viewers won't bother to read it/understand it. Roger Simon, in some of his better work, is not arguing that Obama is out of touch and may not win relection. He is praising Obama for making courageous choices that put doing the right thing ahead of what polls well. Nice job, Drudge.

First the demokrats try to run against Bush in 2010 even though he isn't a candidate. Because that message may have fooled the population two years ago but not now they are now running against Drudge? Wow, the desperation is simply pathetic. I almost feel sorry for them but can't quite make it that far.

The firedog demokrats will find a way to oust Obama. He promised many things they wanted such as debilitating energy taxes and ending all involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq. When the Republicans take the House in January that will force a Klintonian centrism for Obama and the firedogs won't be able to tolerate that.

The bi-partisan debt panel releases its deficit-reducing recommendations in December. I'm sure the Republican Majority in the House will love having that set on their plate first thing. It's going to be great watching the GOP come up with ways to reduce the deficit without raising taxes, cutting defense and Medicare, etc. These idiots are going to get what they deserve.

Why are you wishing that the Republicans fail? That is very Amerikan of you. Plus Obama is the president, any problems will be his fault just like the downturn that began in Bush's last two years when demokrats took majorities was pinne don him by demokrats. What is fair is fair, right?

I'm not wishing the Republicans fail. I think it is going to be funny when they are put on the spot after all their lip service to the Tea Baggers. I would love it for someone to get serious about deficit reduction. I just think the GOP is full of shit on the matter.

It has already started, the firebaggers are now protesting conservadems more than Republicans. They truly feel betrayed and are seeing their socialist utopia falling apart all around them.

Simon defends Obama regularly - I am sure Drudge was quite aware of what his article was saying - but that doesn't mean that Simon is correct, it is just his opinion. Most people will read it and think 'yeah, wtf is up with Obama as he constantly goes against the will of the people?' Bush had 9/11 and a war to deal with that kept him in office in 2004 - Obama is going to need to work a lot harder to overcome his constant slew of decisions that fly in the face of the desire of the voters.

If you can’t model the past, where you know the answer pretty well, how can you model the future? - William Happer Cyrus Fogg Brackett Professor of Physics Princeton University

If he was aware of what the article said, then he was counting on his viewers not to read or understand it. The picture and description he posted were completely misleading. You really will defend anything, won't you?

Someone must have pointed this out to Drudge. He has taken off the headline and buried it with something about "Politico Jokes."

Lame.

That's his usual MO--never admit mistakes, just remove them.

What's funny is that you keep checking out his site!

Face it, the Drudgereport organizes a lot of useful news stories, and it's a great place to find tips and low-down information before it hits the Mainstream.

I posted a thread a while back on this point. You can read Drudges top new stories linked on his page then watch the news networks cover them the next day and sometimes up to 72 hours out. The network producers rat hole these little personal interest stories and use them for filler sometimes days after the story has hit the online press. It's like Jeez! didn't I see that 2 or 3 days ago?

It's true that Drudge has an amazing nose for what kind of stories will reverberate in the echo chamber and has had a long reign of driving news stories with his web site. However, as I posted in a thread a while back I think that reign is coming to an end. He has done nothing to keep his site current and lots of other web sites have figured out the game. I used to check it several times a day but now mainly go to other aggregator sites.

As far as aggregator sites go, I like Huffington Post much better than Drudge. Unlike Drudge, there is a fair amount of original content there and they make much better use of enhanced content like commenting and embedded videos. For general news and opinion I go to:

Politico.com
nytimes.com
wsj.com
washtimes.com
slate.com
salon.com
foxnews.com
dailycaller.com
frumforum.com
mediamatters.com
realclearpolitics.com
