One specific user recently went on an account creation rampage. Many mocking or imitation nicknames were created, as well as some deliberately targeting frequent posters who have not yet registered their name.

To the person who did this: Don't do it again! I know who you are but will not reveal the identity of your "real" account(s). For all the time it took you to create these accounts it took me 5 minutes to write a script to identify and delete them.

If you are an "anonymous" poster and your usual nickname was taken: Please let me know by posting in this thread or sending an email to cary@fairfaxunderground.com. I will return ownership of a nickname to whomever has actually used it. I will use your IP address to verify authenticity.

If you usually post here anonymously with the same name: Now is a good time to register! You do not need to provide a real email address or any other personally identifiable information.

Registering an account guarantees that nobody else can forge or spoof your name.

Please use the "report this post" feature of this forum if garbage like this happens again. I now have FU related mail going to my BlackBerry along with everything else so response times to abuse should be much shorter.

Thanks for your work on this Cary! The person who did this should either be banned or AT LEAST be suspended for sixty days as I suspect whoever did it also causes trouble in other ways here.

I tend to agree. If all the posts were garbage I definitely would have banned the user. However, surprisingly, there has actually been intelligent thought-provoking input from at least one of his aliases.

You've actually been posting without logging into an account for some time. Using the same name every time you post doesn't guarantee ownership of an alias.

The malicious person that created all of these accounts actually created one with your name with the intent of spoofing your identity or preventing you from using the name "Trogdor!" in any future posts.

Thanks Cary. Yeah I noticed some six grader messed with a lot of the nicks. I just added a period after lurker and registered that nick. It took five seconds and I like the new nick better. So Lurker=Lurker. now
