GM is recalling nearly 325,000 heavy-duty trucks because a faulty engine block heater cord may fail

Earlier Recall, not pretensioners but engine blocks from this May. GM is recalling nearly 325,000 heavy-duty trucks because a faulty engine block heater cord may fail, increasing the risk of fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The automaker is recalling 2017 to 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty trucks, and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty trucks. Also included in the recall are 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500, 5500, and 6500 commercial trucks.

Only trucks equipped with 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engines and optional engine block heaters are affected, NHTSA says.

Engine block heaters plug into an external power outlet and warm the engine, making it easier to start in very cold weather. Both the cord and the connection between the cord and the block heater may short circuit, which could cause a fire.

GM says that owners may notice smoke or a burning smell, poor performance from the engine-block heater, or coolant from the block heater pooled under affected trucks. When in use, the block heater may blow vehicle fuses or trip the circuit breaker of the outlet it’s plugged into.

GM told CR that it is aware of 19 fires related to this issue but no reports of injuries, crashes, or fatalities.

Good old American hard work and products. Too bad half the US is illiterate and doesn't have healthcare.

Capitalism always fails.

and illegal aliens at the dealership will take a razor to your brake lines and screw over your $800 sensors by spraying stuff on them

KNOW WHAT? IF THEY WERE TOO CHEAP TO GIVE YOU A SIMPLE PIECE OF GOOD WIRE THE FIRST TIME (and it's made in china), WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU BELIEVE THEY'D COME GOOD ON IT A SECOND TIME?

if you want it fixed, do it yourself

At least they are trying to make good on their products this time unlike the ignition switch cover up that killed over a hundred of their customers.

Recalls - part of Trump's MAGA 6D chess plan to bring manufacturing jobs back to America.

Trump is going to refit the cars to run on coal and bring back coal mining jobs too with money from the Mexican tariffs to pay for the Chinese Wall.

And Trump is certainly bringing nuclear jobs back to North Korea and election meddling jobs to Russia.

Yea, the C-O-R-D to the heater may fail.

Its not the heater core, which, if you knew anything about automobiles, could cause loss of heat to the interior or a coolant leak but would be unlikely to cause a fire. You think you are smart but you are not, smart, at all.

dolt.

some vehicles plug into 120 volt outlets to keep block warm in very cold environments - Alaska has plugs at the parking meters. Diesel fuel engines are especially prone to failure in very cold temps thus necessitating block warmers. Yes there are cords involved.

You might consider learning something before jumping to call others names for things you know nothing about.
