GM vows to move more operations to China and put even more Americans out of work.
Posted by: Automotive industry analyst ()

GM has had it with lazy American UAW workers. GM already has half of its operations in China and technically is no longer an American company. We lost Chrysler years ago so Ford and Tesla is all that's left. Obama should have let GM go under years ago. GM is a shithole company. Now a GM-Ford merger is looking likely.

Americans just aren't very good a building vehicles. Honda, toyota and Mazda sales are just going higher every year because they have a quality product. It is sad to see the American auto industry continue to fail.

Unions, like democrats, reward failure.

Non union businesses succeed. Toyota is more American then government owned Obama motors.

A friend of mine sent me this picture last month of his honda. Why do so many imports smoke out of the tailpipes? Anyways, he’s trading this heap for a General Motors product. At least they don’t smoke or rust in half like hondas.

GM vehicles never really smoke because they are in the crusher before their engines hit 100k. No one can afford the repairs on GM products as they age - endless money pits. Hondas, on the other hand always last 200k many get 300 or even 400k miles and yes the start to smoke a little after 300 or 400k as the rings wear down.

Im sure your friend will find the crushing depreciation and repair costs cold comfort in exchange for a non 'smoking' (if you call the water vapor in the pic 'smoke') vehicle.

GM vehicles are in the crusher by 100,000 miles? LMAO. If you actually believe that, your simply fooling yourself son. If that were true, GM would not exist, genius.

General Motors has 4 vehicles in the top 10 of most reliable vehicles.
So why do you lie? Are you just an ignorant fuck? Apparently yes ;-)

And as far as honda goes, they hold no more reliability than any other vehicle.

GM really screwed up with the Chevy Cruze and the Chevy Volt. Both turned out to be disposable cars not long after 100k miles. Consumers continue to buy more and more Asian cars and the only thing GM can really make money on is light trucks. Probably won't be long till some of those trucks are built in China and sold here. That Buick Envision is selling well and its the first GM vehicle made in China and sold here, the first of many more to come.

No surprise that GM sales are down in the US after the ignition switch scandal where GM willfully killed 124 of their customers and injured 275 others. GM paid out about 2.5 billion in federal court settlements and fines but that does not bring back the 124 of their clients that they killed.

https://fortune.com/2016/09/05/general-motors-settles-ignition-switch-cases/

GM even tried to escape the liability of some of the lawsuits that were filed prior to their bankruptcy filing in 2009. Thankfully the courts put a stop to that.

It’s no surprise that honda vehicles have engines that smoke. But that’s the least of the problems they have. The Takata exploding airbag debacle was a coverup by honda to mislead the public and deny compensation to them. Honda finally paid out 605 million in damages to date, only because attorneys forced them to. A honda engineer discovered the faulty airbags in 1999, but honda refused to address the issue.

Well GM has already moved three US plants to Mexico under Trump. Might as well even it out with China and India.

Good thing Trump is bringing companies back to America.

GM Ford and Chrysler should be out of business -socialist USA politicians gave them billions of taxpayer dollars so they didint go under.

GM vehicles are horribly built machines made with cheap parts and very poor engineering. Honda is known around the world as the best manufacturer of auto engines. Honda transmissions can be shit (see their minivan). You could not pick a better bet for an engine lasting than a Honda. Period. You want worn rings and blown head gaskets by a Chevy or Caddy.

Also, please stop pretending to know anything about autos or engines, googling a few examples of single examples of engine failures is meaningless.

Wrong. Stop lying you ignorant fuck. Honda’s are shit built crap boxes and the transmissions will not pass 70,000 miles on a good day. Like proven by that other guy, General Motors has 4 out of the 10 most reliable vehicles today. What part of facts do you not comprehend? You sound nearly as ignorant as that Gerry faggot. Lol

Obama should never have bailed GM out. They should have been left to go under when they were bankrupt.

GM makes the worst vehicles in history. If you buy a car to last you want a Toyota or a Honda. Don't waste your time and hard earned money on a government owned GM.

Unfortunately, Honda's QC has been going down for the last decade. Toyotas are the top cars now. Hopefully, Honda gets it's shit together.

GM Brands And Vehicles Struggle In 2019 Consumer Reports Reliability Survey

General Motors brands and vehicles struggled in the 2019 Consumer Reports Auto Reliability Survey.

The annual Consumer Reports list ranks brands and vehicles using data from surveyed Consumer Reports members. This year, it gathered data on 420,000 different vehicles spanning the 2000 to 2019 model years, with members able to report vehicle problems across 17 “trouble areas” including engine, transmission and in-car electronics. Consumer Reports then uses the survey data to calculate a “reliability rating” for every major mainstream brand and vehicle.

GM did very poorly in this study. Cadillac was ranked 30th among the mainstream auto brands – which is dead last. Its other brands didn’t do too well, either. Chevrolet was 25th, GMC was 22nd and Buick was 18th. Lexus, Mazda and Toyota occupied the top three in that order, while Porsche and Genesis completed the top five, respectively. Joining Cadillac at the bottom of the order were two other luxury brands: Alfa Romeo was 29th, while Acura was 28th.

“Honda has also battled to stay above water in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, because of reliability problems stemming from its reworked infotainment systems. The brand hasn't scored above the industry average since 2015.”

.

https://www.autonews.com/regulation-safety/honda-appears-weather-quality-issues

“Honda also has had complaints about stalling and reduced power output for 2017 and 2018 CR-Vs with the 1.5-liter turbo engine because of fuel improperly mixing with oil, a problem numerous owners reported to Consumer Reports. Honda said the problem appeared in CR-Vs driven for short distances during extreme cold weather, which could cause an abnormal level of oil dilution as higher-than-expected amounts of unburned fuel mix with engine oil, increasing the oil level. In extreme cases, Honda said the excessive oil levels could result in an engine misfire. A recent Wards Auto report said 143,000 2016-18 Civics could face the same issue.”

Meanwhile, recalls have piled up in recent years, including a bizarre recall of late-model Ridgeline pickups because of a fire risk involving car wash soap.

"When you look at the reliability of Honda and Acura, they have slid over the last several years," said Jake Fisher, director of auto testing at Consumer Reports

Yes, 16 deaths caused by Takata airbags, two of which were in GM vehicles. Compare that to the 124 people who were killed by GM's ignition switch failure cover up.

Also there are plenty of Takata airbags in GM vehicles but GM is fighting to keep NHTSA from forcing a recall.

That's what happens when you start putting tariffs on countries. American businesses move their operations to that country.

you mean putting african americans out of work, btw

they have taken over detroit and it's the african americans that have caused the issue of:

* raping GM's retirement system

* closing GM parts plants to pay for african americans (off-shoring)

* the democrat party of Detroit

so if you want to cry on my shoulder and say their jobs are going bye bye i'm going to say: GOOD. THEY WRECKED GM with lawsuits. they deserve it.

Buy a GM and you have only yourself to blame. Unless its a 2012 Suburban you are fucked. Shame Id love to buy a car with parts made in Mexico and assembled somewhat in USA. Im cheap so I hardly ever buy cars - I drive two cars with a combined 500k mileage. I find engines/trans combos with highly durable bodies and interiors buy them and maintain them to perfection.

I would not buy 99% of GM products. I hate milquetoast Jap products - everyone has one and I owned an accord for 225k miles. Im done with boring jap cars except Lexus, Id buy one of those in a heartbeat.

Anyway GM sucks, Chrysler sucks, Dodge sucks. Honda and toyota are having some issues with direct fuel injection.

This is no surprise. A coworker of mine had a honda car with the takata airbag, and the honda dealer gave him the runaround about changing it under recall. I don’t understand that as takata was going to pay for it. Turns out that honda dealer was taking the granted recall money from takata and keeping it, and fucking over the car owners. He since went to domestic cars and hasn’t looked back.

Looks like that ignorant fuck op is getting really angry, lol.

Anyway, that’s awesome that G.M. has 4 vehicles in the top 10 of listed most reliable cars/trucks. That’s more vehicles than honda or toyota has.

Lolz!

GM isn't even close on reliability to asian brand autos. Koreans make shitty appliances, but very reliable cars. Japan makes extremely reliable cars in the Honda/Toyota/Nissan line. You start getting into Acura/Lexus/Infiniti and you'll have more problems but still far and away less than GM. Even Ford beats GM.

GM has had to cut costs on every angle because they've had to promise high pensions and benefits to the workers via the UAW. That means especially lower quality parts over the life of the vehicle. Those benefits promises will collapse however, since it's just not doable in a global economy where rice burners will work and labor for less.

GM back storage lots are overflowing with unsold vehicles. The demand for GM products just isn't there compared to Honda/Toyota/Nissan.

Don't really care what "a friend of mine" sends me for complaints. Those are anecdotal. Large surveys of hundreds of thousands of owners say otherwise.

The Unions promise things like work for 25 years and get pay and bennies for 50. It just doesn't fucking work. You can't get enough interest in that time to back the ridiculous promises the UAW demands. The wheels fall off with that stupid shit. This isn't they heydays of the 1950's when there was no competition.

THe new Consumer reports that just got delivered yesterday has a segment on overall reliability of vehicles by brand. According to their data Honda has slipped in quality but its still far better than GM products. Lexus was rated highest with a tie for second between Mazda and Toyota.

I feel your pain. Besides the rust problems that honda and Toyota has, honda engines have the oil burning issue that is plaguing their engines.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I switched to domestic vehicles years ago and I’m sooo glad I did. As consumer reports stated, honda cars are completely overrated, and through years of quality testing show less[b/] reliability

Not surprising. GM killed over a hundred people with their ignition switch problem cover up. They figure that a few more deaths from their refusal to replace the Takata airbags is not a big deal.

Doubtful. Honda’s deadly coverup of the takata airbags ruined their name. I’ve bought strictly domestic for a longgg time and couldn’t be happier.

Yes Honda has slipped in quality in recent years. Lexus and Toyota taken the top spots in quality right now. Of course GM products are among the lowest quality with the exception of the little Buick SUV that is totally built in China. Maybe GM has found the answer to their sales slump, maybe they need to start making all their vehicles in China. They already build about half of their vehicles in China. It seems like GM customers have no problem supporting communism.

More lies. Do you even read the links you post you ignorant fuck?? So GM is building products in other countries and selling them to the local population. That’s what global companies do you weirdo. This bothers you? LMAO you have to be a libtard to let petty things like that bother you. GM is dominating the ‘foreign’ car market in China, while honda is still reeling over their takata airbag coverup and awful dependability record.

The last GM product I owned was a 1996 Chevy Silverado. Back in 96 GM was still making a quality product. Today everything GM sells is garbage and it really shows.

Consumer Reports ranks Chevy among the least reliable car companies.
Going by 2019 Consumer Reports rankings, Chevrolet ranked 23rd among 29 car brands evaluated. That made Chevy vehicles seventh-worst overall. The Traverse SUV and Silverado 2500 HD pickup showed up among the year’s poorest-scoring vehicles for reliability.

I’ve owned both imports and domestics. And domestics by far have more style, class, dependability and hold their values better than imports.

I once had a toyota. Rustiest piece of shit I ever owned.

Lexus is rated as most reliable followed now by Mazda then Toyota/Honda. Surprisingly Acura is now among the least reliable. GM is junk, pretty all of their materials and design are inferior and you will incur a very high cost of ownership after the warranty period is up.

Lets be honest, the troll here extolling the virtue of GM probably drives a 1998 Toyota Corrolla.

I often wondered why so many hondas I see driving around have colored smoke coming out of the tailpipe. Great info, thanks.

I drive a F-150 4x4 and I have a old beater 06 Accord. I much prefer driving my Ford but my old Honda was my commuter car before I retired. The Honda has had both airbag inflators replaced once and the passenger airbag inflator replaced a second time just recently.
While I dont love the ride or comfort of the Honda it has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. It now has about 280,000 miles on it and it only broke down once. It needed a new module of some sort back in 2016 and that was a 250 dollar repair. I bought it new and it still has the factory muffler. It has had multiple sets of tires and brakes of course and regular maintenance. If I needed a new vehicle now I would buy a Ford.

So sad that we are losing the GM we grew up with. Today it's all about greed.

My neighbor and myself had a little bet some years back. He was so bent on import quality, and swore that a domestic would never outlast an import. It was a friendly wager really. The bet was simple...who could get to 300,000 miles and spend the least amount of money. We would keep all receipts and bills and compare. I bought a new (at the time) 2009 Impala. He bought a new (at the time) Honda CRV. His honda was plagued with problems from the beginning, like a air conditioner recall, valve train chatter, foaming engine coolant, etc. He final straw was air bag recall. He gave up and traded it in at 223,000 miles.

My Chevy Impala easily got to 300,000 miles. All it required was basic maintenance, (oil changes and fluid changes), one starter, one alternator, and one set of coil packs. I’m still driving it and is by far the most reliable car I’ve ever bought. So happy.

At GM management hates labor. Whenever they have a layoff they make sure to do it right about this time of year. Just last year they closed the entire Lordstown Ohio plant down on November 26. Management gets a little kick out of watching the families suffer. With this kind of hatred between management and labor its no wonder that GM makes such low quality vehicles.

I thought I had a good life. I worked in the airbag installation line at the honda factory. We were told to ignore the rumors of faulty airbags. I went along with it. I’ll regret that for the rest of my life.

GM Brands were Slammed In Latest Consumer Reports Reliability Survey

Read more: http://gmauthority.com/blog/2018/10/gm-brands-slammed-in-latest-consumer-reports-reliability-survey/#ixzz67RRxfDF2

General Motors didn’t make out all too well in the latest Consumer Reports Reliability Survey. The non-profit organization ranked GM brands towards the bottom of the list.

The reliability survey comes from owner responses, which CR said it received feedback on more than 500,000 vehicles in the latest survey. Vehicles spanned the 2000-2018 model years and covered 300 models.

The biggest fall from grace was the Buick brand. The brand placed eighth last year but tumbled 11 spots to 19th place. That’s a major fall from 2016 when Buick became the first U.S. auto brand to crack the top three rankings since data collection began in the 1980s.

Owners cited issues with the 2018 Buick Enclave’s nine-speed automatic transmission as a real sour point. And it gets worse from there.

Buick was the best-ranked GM brand in the latest survey. Chevrolet placed 23rd, down from 18th place; GMC placed 25th, up from 26th place; and Cadillac held steady in 28th place. The luxury division was the second-worst ranked brand, only behind Volvo. The only Cadillac vehicle deemed “better than average” was the XTS sedan, coincidentally enough.

It’s incredible that honda is still trying to skirt responsibility on their exploding airbags in 2019.

General motors began to rack up losses. In just four years, from 2005 to 2009, the company netted $51 billion in losses. Any company other than GM would have entered the history of defunct companies in 2009. The situation was so bad then that it was bleeding hundreds of millions of dollars in cash every single day. Because of the financial crisis, no bank had the money or the willingness to extend billions of dollars of credit to it. Executives descended on Washington, begging Congress to lend it money from the US Treasury. How could a company be so badly mismanaged?

Airbags built by Takata not Honda. Plenty of GM vehicles have those same airbags.

GM would be doing well if the Asian car companies were not making such superior vehicles. Vehicles are expensive so nobody wants to buy a low quality GM product.
