I would think it depends more on your health than age per se. I'm 59 almost 60 and in reasonably good shape. I feel about the same as always with respect to sex or anything else.

51, in great shape. Sex is the same as when I was younger. But it helps to date/fuck women in their 20s and 30s. They are in so much better shape than women in their 40s and 50s. When you hit your fifties if you are unmarried and financially secure it is less about how much sex can you get and more about how much sex you can handle.
If you are an older man there are plenty of opportunities for sex. Most older women have long since shed their sexual hangups, and are more numerous then single men of the same age. There are the younger women who are tired of the jerks or losers their own age. The challenge is figuring out where to meet them. What these liars won't tell you though is that no matter how good of shape you are in you are going to have more cramps, more sore shoulders or lower back pain. You are going to be shooting more blanks and taking more reload time in your fifties and sixties then in your teens and twenties. You are going to be relying more on technique because you don't have the stamina you used to.

Don't blame all ED issues on the man. I am in my late 50s, married 35 years, beautiful wife, she same age, in love still. She had a full hysterectomy at 37, Hormone replacement for 15 years. As soon as her doctor took her off of HRT her sex drive tanked. I still get erections but have a hard time getting excited about sex if it is a chore for her. Oh well, what can you do?
