I intend to release some nutria around the Burke Lake area

When I was in New Orleans, they had shitloads of these somewhat ratlike creatures all over the place, and people shoot them and eat them! Delicious! But I can't seem to find any around NoVa and I've looked everywhere. I'm thinking of heading down to the Gulf Coast and trapping a few to let go around here. Once you've released, say, seven or eight of them, they will quickly develop into a stable breeding population, and you can hunt as many of them as you want. I think it would be a fine public service to introduce a new hunting opportunity for NoVa outdoorsmen (and women - they like hunting too!). I have chosen the environs around Burke Lake simply because it is conveniently close to my home, but let me know if you can think of any other areas that might benefit from more diversity of fuana. Bon apetite!

I like that you're so civic-minded. Not many people think of others like you clearly do. You are a credit to your upbringing. Bring some of those nice Burmese pythons from the Everglades, too. Everyone seems to like them.

In the first place it is too cold for them here. In the second place, they would eat up all the nutria. Introduction of pythons is even considered somewhat controversial in some circles for that very reason. A good compromise if you must introduce pythons is only to release very small ones.

Why would you go to the Gulf Coast for nutria? Just go over the Bay Bridge to the Eastern Shore and you will find plenty of them. They were released in Dorchester County in 1943 and are in Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. The Virginia Beach area has a lot also.

Beware of the Burke Lake Monster if go to Burke Lake.
