A REAL question of faith for the god folk
Posted by: the son of gad ()

Is a belief in a god a question of faith, or is it something else, like stupidity, or, following the crowd?

Faith seems like it would be if you were asked to do, or believe in, something that is a little unusual by someone who has done it before.

Like, say you've got a business partner who wants to get into a risky deal...but he's pulled something very much like it before. He might say, hey, have some faith in me, I've done it before.

OK, you might say, based on what I've seen you do before, I've got faith in you that you can pull this off.

How is a "faith" in a god anything similar?

It's not. We've never seen a god pull off ANYTHING that doesn't have a million plus possible other explanations. We've never met this "god".

I know, I know, people say..."look all around you! How can you say it's not god?"

Well, I can say it's not god the way I can say it's not martians, or some weird magic trick, or a dog fart that created it.

The only logical answer is "I don't know". And just as I think it is foolish to assign anything to unseen martians or dog farts, it is foolish to conclude god.

So, if a guy you NEVER met, and have no idea of his business ability or track record, asks you to have a little faith in him pulling of some incredible deal, is it faith if you do that, or just plain freaking stupidity?

And, isn't faith in god the same thing?

I sense religious babble in ten, nine, eight

The burden of proof is on the disbelievers. By the way, you are over thinking the whole faith aspect of it all.

human beings are supposed to be God in the flesh...we are supposed to be the physical embodyment of the supreme intelligence and power that governs the universe

yes, eye in know, modern humans are anything but that...and that crutch, the god of religion is one of the main reasons

Everyone loves a good fairy tale. Some can't take it for what it is.

Atheist are a funny lot. Mention God and they get angry quickly. They don’t get mad about the tooth fairy or such, so their supposed belief is a sham. They believe in God, they know it’s not a sham but they have no conviction. The anger
comes from their fear. A rude awakening looms.

He’s performed miracles in my life. I’ve always felt his presence. You have the right to not believe, though. I have the right to believe. I’ll take the latter

True. That's because Satan is real. No other religion gets atheists blood boiling besides Christianity.

I have faith in the fact that if I do anything bad, I feel like shit, and it usually comes back to bite me.

I have stared into the abyss and prayed numerous times. Despite the scientific and mathematical probabilities, I am alive and quite happy about it. Don't know if the prayers worked, but I prayed and I like the results.

Not a joiner so no church mumbo jumbo for me. I just try to live a good legal, moral, and ethical life and show kindness/understanding/generosity to others. Don't care who they worship/don't. That's their business.

Satan is very real. This is why I am disturbed about your worship of the whoremonger in the White House. He has fooled many fine young people everywhere. You will pay with your eternal soul if you don't see the error of your ways.

That's kind of harsh. Besides, once you make league with a devil like the one in the White House, your eternal soul is damned for eternity and that can't be undone, no matter how much you repent. Trump's rules. No Do-Overs.

That stupid idea probably goes a long way in proving OP's point.

Where else is the "burden of proof" on disbelievers?

On what other issue would the burden of proof be on a disbeliever?

Nowhere.

None.

So, make a FANTASTIC claim, with MINIMAL evidence, and the burden of proof is on the nonbeliever?

That's just plain stoopid.

I'd love to know what "miracles" she has performed for you?

Like, has she done ANYTHING that couldn't be explained by something else?

No. No. NOOOO!

Cured cancer? Doctor.

You didn't get hit by a runaway bus? Blind dumb luck.

Plane landed? Well, planes land!

Grew somebody's leg back?...Oh wait, doesn't happen. Never has happened. Because, that just doesn't happen.

Then, ol' bible beaters who claim "miracles" say, "look around you! That theres is a miracle!"

STUPID!!!!!!
