Tuna company StarKist has been ordered to pay $100 million for working with other companies to fix the prices of canned tuna, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Wednesday. The tuna giant was also sentenced to a 13-month term of probation, according to a DOJ news release.

The fine, the statutory maximum, was assigned by U.S. District Court Judge Edward Chen for what prosecutors described as a price fixing conspiracy from as early as November 2011 to at least December 2013. StarKist has agreed to cooperate in the DOJ Antitrust Division’s ongoing investigation, according to the department.

I ALREADY KNWO THAT'S FAKE NEWS BEFORE YOU FINISHED THE SENTENCE

there are a few to several companies selling tuna, and countless ships with contracts with those companies

to collude prices MULTIPLE companies have to set the price behind closed doors

WHICH MEANS STARKIST could not have colluded, since colluding with one's self is not a crime

Tuna used to come in larger cans and you could get 6 cans in a bundle for around 6-7$. Now they come in tiny 5 oz cans 8 for $12.00 for albacore, or 8 cans for $6.98 at Wallmart. You pay for 40 oz. but the drained weight of product is only 32 oz. This stuff used to be priced by net weight. More ripoffs!
