I always wondered how these people on boats go missing, do they try to go swimming, or is it foul play?

In this case, there's no boat apparently floating around - so it probably sunk.
Coulda had the motor go out and got disabled, then overturned with heavier waves or a wake from a larger boat. They could have struck something and been tossed overboard, taken on water and sunk. There are lots of possibilities with nothing being found. They may never really know for sure.

Really? So many possibilities to go wrong out at sea. Looks like they had a Mercury outboard, that alone is a death wish without good communication devices. I only trust a Yamaha or Honda on the water.

It's possible they forgot to put the plug in. Water will drain while boat is on plane, when the vessel slows down or stops water begins to fill the bilge and a small swell swamps them.
