Pete Buttigieg: What to know about his plan for debt-free college
Posted by: Mayor Pete Buttugieg ()
Date: April 14, 2019 07:08PM

Key details

Buttigieg told people at a rally at Northeastern University that he isn't for free college, but is instead looking at ways to lessen the cost of college — a more moderate approach than fellow Democratic candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
Buttigieg is looking into expanding Pell Grants to low-income students, loan forgiveness programs and interest rates to refinance loans.
States should cover a higher proportion of tuition than students, he said.

“Americans who have a college degree earn more than Americans who don’t. As a progressive, I have a hard time getting my head around the idea of a majority who earn less because they didn’t go to college subsidizing a minority who earn more because they did.”

— Buttigieg told students at Northeastern University

So what does this really mean? It means the tax payer is going to be tapped to pay for debt forgiveness through higher taxes.

It won't be "the rich". It will be the middle class. Democrats always look to shift responsibility for paying for things.

Once again, working people are going to be put on the hook for this candidate's promises, so he can get more votes.

So he's going to confiscate the pay of others to foot another person's bills? Why?

I’m not smart, but, he is saying, that people who didn’t go to college and earn less then people who did and he doesn’t understand why the people who don’t earn as much and didn’t go to college shouldn’t pay for the people who did go to college and earn more...SO, my guess is, if the higher earning college educated can’t pay for their college and the uneducated lower earners can’t, who the fuck else is left? SO YES THE RICH, I’d that’s what ur asming

What will bring costs down is eliminating the guarantee that everyone who applies for federal student loans will get an amount to pay the whole tuition in full. Schools know they can charge exorbitant amounts for education because of this. The amount of the loan awarded should be determined by a student's academic record in high school, their possible major and the university's track record of providing acceptable ROI to it's alumns.

Those who start out at a community college I think should have said requirements waived as the most cost effective way to pay your way is to start out there first and transfer.

How about we start by asking why it's so expensive to begin with? Maybe because campuses and facilities are now built with the expectation of a vacation resort and also the student doesn't feel the cost of tuition. The government pays for everything and then bills the student later and then they start whining about the costs years later. On top of it, since the student doesn't "feel" the cost, the university charges higher and higher amounts to soak up all that "free money" from uncle sam. It's a BS setup.

I agree, it seems healthcare is similar.
College seems to have become like a must and if u don’t go your a loser.
When I was a kid, college wasn’t for everyone, and parents didn’t take a chance if u were a slacker. Not everyone went to college back then, now every retard goes

Every retard goes. That pretty much sums it up.

They get degrees in gender, afro-centric and kinesiology and walk out with $200,000 in debt and then want the tax payer to kick in for debt forgiveness because they only earn $10 an hour.

Not everyone can go study mechanical engineering, finance or computer science without getting anything higher than a 2.5 gpa. STEM jobs prepare you for an actual career where as liberal arts open you up to a broad range of others. “Soft” majors have value, but it’s up to the degree holder to market themselves and lay out that value. Most people don’t know how to do that. We’re better off with an army of degree holders than a handful. It’s a good problem to have.

Big Education has been gouging young people for too long and getting away with it.

Cut off all loans and grants. College could be very inexpensive with today's technology. Harvard classes could be streamed to classrooms set up in wearhouses staffed by low cost workers where tests can be taken.

Cut off the gravy train and watch how quickly colleges get hyper efficient. Granted at least 50 percent of big academia would be cut but it's good for the country.

This is true.

My 19 Yo started his own business, moving / junk hauling and is taking advantage of the boom the economy is going through. After graduation from high school we sat and talked about what was next and he decided to start his own thing work it into a viable profitable enterprise and take classes when he needed to. He started with 1 truck and a helper and he now has 5 trucks and 10 mexicans working for him. He does about 15-17K a month on average and has crews working 7 days a week.

He scraps copper and other metals for extra cash. Pays his guys 15 bucks an hour and if they start bitching he fires them and goes and gets 5 more. Thanks Trump for bringing all that cheap labor into the country.

All you parents that send your kids to college are just feeding the universities and keeping costs up. You people are fucking stupid because when your kids are done with school they will have huge debt for degrees that are worthless and come back home to live in your basements. For work they will be able to do retail, fast food or the call center at Navy Federal. Aren't you glad you spent all that money. Morons.

Speaking of education, I was really surprised that it's quite easy to get dissertation help online these days and that there are quite a lot of services that provide such help. I found a few ones and now I read reviews because I am about to chose one and use it because I am quite stuck with my dissertation I am working at for quite a long time already.
