This is why the number of 'independents' has grown, almost exclusively at the expense of those who used to identify as republican. The GOP is just democrat-light now. That is just those in English. France's Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen would also rank up there. Martin Luther's works are slightly behind because their value is collective more than individual. Adam Smith and Karl Marx's works had a greater impact on the world. Then there is the relative importance of the U.S. Constitution of 1787 and prior documents that provided a model or inspiration for it.

The individual rights you cherish are not protected in the document called The Constitution. The drafters chose not to include them which is why Mason and others bolted.

What we call our Constitution is a collection of The Constitution, a series of amendments, some court decisions, statutes and traditions.
