GM closing 5 plants and discontinuing 6 vehicles.
Posted by: GM is the new Sears ()

The Chevy Volt, Cruze, Impala, Cadillac CT6, STS and Buick Lacrosse are all being discontuied. The Cruze was supposed to be the Camry killer but that never worked out for them.

GM is starting to circle the drain. Maybe someone who knows how to build decent vehicles will buy them out.

Love to blame GM on MAGA but they are shit vehicles. I suppose they would have been considered reliable in the 1970's but cars built today need a 10 year 140k min life cycle. GM's break down out of the gate.

That said Trump promised this would not happen on his watch. GOP has had complete and total control of everything for 2 years and they were handed an economy where not one manufacturer was shuttering plants. So what gives?

Kind of like DaimlerChrysler? Chrysler still can't build a decent vehicle.

They could, it's just not as profitable to do that. So they'll continue to churn out cars made of cheap unreliable parts until they're out of business and the major investors cash out. If ya want quality, buy a Toyota

I have a Camry that I bought used and it is reliable, it is our beater, backup car. When you pull the door shut it sounds like someone just dropped a couple empty beer cans on the ground. When I pull the door shut on my Chevy Impala I hear a solid thud. Seems like the Toyota is a lightweight piece of crap but it never needs anything other than brakes and tires. The Chevy has some sort of problem every 10 to 12 thousand miles.

Toyota is the best made vehicle for reliability - I still cannot bring myself to drive one due to the 'beer can' fit and finish. I stick with what I know how to repair Volvo and Mercedes. They drive well and have solid construction - close the door and it sounds right.

Yeah older cars will start to creak & rattle, stuff that's not worth figuring out and fixing, but change the oil regularly in that Toyota and replace the transmission fluid every 60,000, it'll run for 300 thousand miles or more.

How was that? The Cruze is more along the lines of a Corolla and the Malibu might be a better car to compete with the Camry.

I don't doubt that for a minute. I've tried small import Suv's in the past. Honda Pilot, Suzuki samurai, and Honda rav4. And all 3 of those were so cheaply built they literally created the term, "Disposable cars". I can't believe I kept trying imports but I realized finally that Japanese car cheaply built piece of shits.

I'm so happy I went with a man's vehicle... JEEP

One of the few things Obama did wrong was bail out GM. If a company can't make it on it's own it should be bought out or it should go under, thats the way it is supposed to work in a free country. GM simply can't compete anymore.

He* didn't just bail it out. He fucked over GM's stock and bond holders by devaluing their holdings by 75% AND made them go to the back of the line in bankruptcy proceedings. And he cut off GM dealerships that wer

My dad owned GM corporate bonds. Yeah, Obama fucked over 300+ years of the corporate debt structure seniority pyramid. Just like a 3rd world dictator. What a faggot negro.

GM is a shitty company that builds low quality products and hires low quality people. This is why they don't make a profit most of the time. GM employees and retirees deserve to get fucked because they are terrible at what they do for a living.

Lol. Did you just compare a Camry to a Malibu?

I've been inside of both cars and the Malibu is far superior in interior fit, design, dash layout and ease/accessibility. The exterior of the Chevy has actual style and class, while the interior/exterior of the camry is cheaply made with plastic and slapped together. Rattles and squeaks abound.

I wish the japs could built a vehicle that wasn't pure overrated shit.

Yeah, it's hard to believe that GM is struggling so bad and Toyota is the richest and most successful automotive company in the world.

I swore off imports years ago because of all the recall and reliability issues I was having. It all started with the toyota rust issues. It was unbelievable. This happened even with my car undercoated. Luckily I was able to pass the problem on to the next sucker before the paint exploded with rust holes.

Then, I bought a Honda thinking it would be better... NOT. The engine starting smoking and burning oil. Honda was involved in a major lawsuit and refused to acknowledge this clusterfuck. My Honda literally looked like a diesel vehicle coming up the road. It was good for insect control tho. That was one good thing about it.

I'm so glad I started driving domestic cars and trucks.

Yes, I've tried both cars. You are correct about "basic-ness" of a Camry. The point was that it was noted that the Cruze was to compete with the Camry. The Cruze is nearly 9" shorter than the Camry and also has a 5" shorter wheelbase. I don't think the Cruze was designed to compete with the Camry, but rather the Corolla. The wheelbase, length, etc. of the Corolla and Cruze are much closer than that of the Camry vs. Cruze.

The auto Union has the blessing of the democratic party. So yes, anything that has uaw attached to it is poison. And the sooner both of those cursed entities are erased, the better.

Me, too. They screwed over customers for decades. Karma is a bitch.

GM was all I owned for a number of years when I first started driving. Mostly Chevies. Junk after junk after junk.

I would never buy another GM vehicle. All I own now are Toyotas and I am so happy with them - and especially happy not to be on a first name basis with anyone at the dealer service center.

At least a Malibu has class and style, and is a man's vehicle. Anytime I see a 'man' driving a toyota it makes me laugh.

GM to Pay $900 Million For Faulty Ignition Switch Cover-up

124 deaths and 274 injuries were linked to the switch that cost about $1 for GM to replace.

GM used plenty of those Takata air bags in their vehicles. At least they did not try to cover up the problem this time like they did with those ignition switches where they murdered 121 people. It will be a great thing for America when GM goes under or sells out to Nissan.

Those GM executives should have gotten prison time for trying to cover up that problem that killed those people.

With Toyota you had rust and engine recalls to deal with, consider yourself lucky. A co-worker of mine nearly lost her life with a takata exploding airbag. She was involved in a class action lawsuit against honda because they covered it up. I'll never drive an import again.

Those damn imports and their airbags. lol.....

https://www.consumerreports.org/airbags/takata-airbag-recall-expands-to-include-more-ford-lincoln-mercury-vehicles/

And GM asked that they be exempt from any recalls because they said their Takata airbags are different (CR and industry analysts say GM is lying).

I feel sorry for the people of Lordstown Ohio where the Chevy Cruze plant is closing. Thousands of people out of work and it is killing the entire town and sending their real estate values plummeting. It's not really their fault that the Cruze never became popular and is such a unreliable car. The plant is now down to one shift and will close completely by March 1st.

It's sad that I had to trade in my toyota, but the rust was out of control to be honest. I had heard that Japanese quality was superior to American quality, but after the rust debacle toyota has, and their refusal to address the consumers, I gladly switched to an American truck.

Damn glad I did...

Hey, we live in a capitalist country. No need to feel sorry for those who cannot perform and cannot compete. They build extremely low quality cars so they get shut down, that's the way it is supposed to work.

I work as a Virginia safety auto inspector and toyotas definitely have the most rust out of any make of vehicles that I've seen. I've had customers get angry because I have to fail them over excessive rust.

I have heard that because GM builds military vehicles that they will always be subsidized by the government. GM does not have to worry about shit because the taxpayers will always bail them out. Working for GM is just a form of welfare.

Make sure you get it fixed immediately. This poor woman is living with a glass eye and was involved in a collective lawsuit against takata and honda because they tried to cover up the failure and obviously didn't care about people's lives.

Yes, those airbags have killed 15 people and the companies involved are doing their best to replace all those airbag inflators unlike GM who killed ten times as many people with their defective ignition switches and then tried to cover it up. That's why GM was fined 900 million dollars and is still facing multiple civil suits.

Yes and GM should have gone under years ago but the government bailed them out which is just extending the agony for this slowly dying company that makes poor quality vehicles.

No kidding. Honda could care less, much like takata doesn't care. They just want your money. As the largest recall in automotive history is unfolding right now, we will see how far the rabbit hole goes...

That's not too bad and can be easily fixed with a paint job. Imagine having to deal with the toyota rust debacle...

Yes, much like Sears GM has lost their way and companies like Mazda,Honda and Toyota are eating GM's lunch. Maybe they can turn it around. GM tried in the 90's with Saturn which was popular at first but ended up a huge failure. I would hate to see GM go under even though I am a Ford customer.

Chevy trucks do rust sooner: it makes the car lighter and get better gas mileage.

(old chevy especially farm/plow truck models had/have very thick underbody metals - any rust is merely a nothing - even in the salt belt)

as far as body rust: wash your truck and or don't live in a salt-belt state or tell your ()*&*# governor to stop salting the roads when there's only 1" of snow.

Chevy body rust maybe sooner BUT (in the past) cost 1/2 as much, parts cost 1/2 as much. Today - go google it i'm not going to go compare today's prices. BUT THEY ARE MOSTLY CHINESE PARTS TODAY, so you'd expect Japan and USA cars to have similar price.

None of my Toyotas ever rusted, and I keep them for at least 200k miles. Also, I don't give a damn how my door sounds when it closes. I care about NOT paying $500 every six months to fix another broken part, like every American car owner does.
