Obama Admin - Stop Driving Cars, Push them to Dealership
Posted by: conVince ()

Obama Administration's Sec of Transportation, a republican who sided with Obama because his mentality was a good fit in this administration, testified before kongressional demokrats today that owners of recalled Toyotas should stop driving them immediately and take them to a dealership to get them fixed.

Failing to see the chicken-and-egg problem he just proposed, will Obama's Kash for Klunker$ program be revived to pay for towing for a few million cars? Or are owners expected to push the cars to repair facilities?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35216587/ns/business-autos/

Specifically he said "stop driving it. Take it to a Toyota dealer because they believe they have a fix for it."

Any guesses on how the average consumer "takes" a car to a dealer without driving it?

You are getting desperate ConVince..trying to pass a private industry problem back at the feet of the U.S. Government. Be careful what you wish for..you'd be squealing if the Administration did more then advise people not to drive cars. By the way...what else could he say? Imagine the fury if he had said..go ahead and drive the cars...and yours happens to have the problem and you crash it. Youd be squealing Obama killed my kid!

The administration of the demokrats is now back-pedaling on their demand to stop driving Toyotas, thereby losing all of the American jobs in Toyota factories here.

Late Breaking News!

Toyota owners should stop driving cars affected by recall, take them to dealers, says U.S. transportation secretary

Is it just me, or might someone else be wondering if the Feds are hyping this whole Toyota scare to the max? Late in December, our Sec of Transportation, Ray LaHood, had some of his folks fly to Tokyo to warmn the Toyota folks that they might put the 'stop sell' on the vast majority of their product line.

Now the same LaHood is admonishing current Toyota owners to park their cars on their dealer's lot. He is a dumb ass to be sure. This will be confirmed if you get a chance to see him interviewed 'bout this over the next day or so. But even this dumb ass would know that no dealer can accomodate all of his U.I.O's (units in operation) on his lot. E.G. Springfield Toyota typically delivers @ 3,000 new 'yotas a year, the vast majority of which are in the recall window. His U.I.O's would be @ 5 times annual sales. Think he can park 15,000 disgruntled customer's cars? He can't do 200 at any one time. So Mr. LaHood is effectively creating a crisis of confidence and a panic amongnst a good dealer and his normally rational FFX Co. customers.

I'm in the car biz....domestic dealer...no love loss or tears shed for my normally outrageously successful Toyota competitors. But I do have to wonder if this wrecking crew down on Pennsylvania Ave, the same crew that bit into the Chrysler and GM apples only to find half of a diseased worm, I wonder if they're creating another crisis that's 'too good to waste'.

Pointless bullshit outrage. If someone told me, "Your car has a design flaw that causes the gas pedal to get stuck. Stop driving it, and take it to a dealership," I wouldn't immediately assume that meant I shouldn't drive it to a dealership. I would certainly not drive it anywhere else until I got it checked out, though.*

I'm under 30 (believe it or not, I don't care), and I can still remember a time when we didn't need someone else to do our thinking for us. If my concern was so great that I didn't even want to risk driving it that far, then I would discuss towing options with the dealership. Or rent a truck with a hitch. Or research what exactly the specific problem is (does it stick when it's pushed down all the way? Randomly?) and work around it until I get to the dealership. Or drive really slow, just in case. Or take back roads.

I know, I know. Crazy talk!

*EDIT: OK, so people took the "don't drive" statement to mean they shouldn't buy Toyotas? That's f------ retarded. If you're buying one of the cars affected by the recall and don't bother to ask if it's been addressed before you drive it off the lot, you're pretty much asking for a problem.

So you are saying those people deserve to die? And that those people they kill in those Japanese death traps deserve their fate as well? The insensitivity on this blog is astounding and I am crying after reading all the things said here.

No, I'm saying that even the smallest of all self-preservation instincts should compel one to ask if this problem has been fixed before they drive one of the affected models off the lot. Personally, I'd ask to see supporting documentation before even getting behind the wheel of the thing.

clarify;

What's needed here is some perspective. I dare say that hundreds of millions of miles have been traveled in these vehicles without incident. Someone who has access to the stats, someone like uummm...our Dept of Transportation needs to provide the stats that would likely reveal that one is as likely to be struck by lightening than to experience this failure between now and the time that the parts are available. Let people make there own informed decision.

But LaHood chose the Chicago way. Hype the fear. Stoke the uncertainty. It is as reprehensible as it is transparent. BTW, moments ago, the Dumb Ass tried to walk his comments back in an interview with Bloomberg.

You're probably right. The number of cars affected is probably nowhere near the number of cars that have been driven so far without incident.

However, a lot of people probably wouldn't address this if they said, "There's a 1 in 10,000 chance that your gas pedal will stick."

Fixed it for you.

According to the UK press, the Obama administration is attempting to order Americans not to drive Toyotas.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1248177/Toyota-recall-Last-words-father-family-died-Lexus-crash.html

"The fatal incident came to light as the U.S. transport secretary Ray LaHood ordered Americans to stop driving Toyotas immediately."

The good news is they seem to be relenting on their tireless pursuit of overcoming the annoying Constitution for our free press, religion, due process, and gun ownership rights and are instead conducting SCOTUS-friendly restrictions of car brands. Some believe this is a veiled method of reducing Japanese corporate jobs and increasing the stature of the American automobile industry, but someone needs to tell them that Japanese carmakers employee Americans at factories...in America.
