Acquiring Shotguns
Solicitation Number: TIRWR-10-Q-00023
Agency: Department of the Treasury
Office: Internal Revenue Service (IRS)

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) intends to purchase sixty Remington Model 870 Police RAMAC #24587 12 gauge pump-action shotguns for the Criminal Investigation Division. The Remington parkerized shotguns, with fourteen inch barrel, modified choke, Wilson Combat Ghost Ring rear sight and XS4 Contour Bead front sight, Knoxx Reduced Recoil Adjustable Stock, and Speedfeed ribbed black forend, are designated as the only shotguns authorized for IRS duty based on compatibility with IRS existing shotgun inventory, certified armorer and combat training and protocol, maintenance, and parts.
...

I would presume this is for their "Police" unit that patrols the facilities. Although how many times their investigations group has to deal with folks requiring shotguns would be an interesting question.

What does that division of the IRS have to do with facility security? That division is mostly white-collar bank fraud investigators, aside from the tax code violation enforcement that comes from narcotics-related financial crimes.

Most of what they do is electronic forensics and investigation it seems but I guess if they have to raid a drug house for financial records having a good shotgun is important. Not sure why another agency wouldn't be doing the actual raid though. Then again the federal government has so many armed police forces it's hard to know who is banging down your door.

Public Enemy # 1 Al Capone was arrested by the IRS Intel. Unit which was the precurser organization to the IRS CID. Plus, many drug dealers and other violent criminals are investigated and convicted on money laundering or tax evasion charges. Shotguns? Hell yes.

IRS is under the Dept of Treasury as is the Secret Service. The main job of the Secret Service is to protect the nations currency, not guarding POTUS.

It is perfectly understandable and reasonable that Treasury Dept, IRS etc would cary guns under certain situations.

Remember in the old movies when where the farmer would protect his still from the "revenuers"? Who do you think the revenuers were? Actually, the revenuers did not give a crap about the moral aspects of the farmer running the still, they cared it wasn't being taxed.

Sorry, Secret Service is in Department of Homeland Security. Maybe you should catch up to the 21st Century.

IRS has special agents that are sworn law enforcement just like FBI or ATF.

And they actually do arrest people and do raids and asset forfeiture. Especially related to drugs.

I know a guy who used to do IRS Investigative work, and he's actually really cool. He admits that it was a really despised position though lol. I imagine that the IRS is somewhere on most folks black list, only a few notches below Al-Qaeda possibly.

Oh yeah, because they've caused so much damage with riots and all. Not like Green"peace" or anything similar to those leftist freak fests.
