Jim Jones was a socialist con artist. He was loved in San Francisco by Harvey Milk, Nancy Pelosi and Willie Brown. They all loved the communal structure of his cult and the white self-hatred. More than two thirds of his cult members were elderly black women.

Jim Jones trained his cult to scam food stamps and other welfare benefits. The city government of San Francisco appointed Jones to lead a city housing board.

It was all fun and games until November 1978 when Jim Jones commanded his followers to drink Kool-Aid laced with rat poison. Over 900 people died.
