You really think putting Meade in a job where the public can see him is a good business move? He really has an off-putting look. This is why he excels at jobs where he is a covered from head to toe.

The best place for Meade would be locked away in a laundry room... Nothing too hot of course... He gets kind of effluvient when the temperature rises. Meade ripens like a French cheese when left out on a snack tray.


Furthermore, one really doesn't want Meade to interact with customers. Meade might start giving one of his political or social rants. He makes both liberals and conservatives nervous. Liberals don't want to hear it at all. Conservatives are disgusted that their beliefs might have contributed to such a bizarre specimen as Meade.

Of course, worse of all would be if Meade starts dredging up his wacky musical opinions. His sour grapes on the world not recognizing his musical genius and how 'the beetles' was a no talent boy band, unlike the Monkees...

Meade might be best if he went up north to Glen Allen and work at Tysons in the slaughterhouse. Talking to the chickens might be good therapy for Meade.

As a taxpayer I would rather support ten, or even a hundred Meade Skeltons, than one single William Moreno. Meade provides tremendous entertainment value which he gives to us free of charge. Meade also serves as an inspiration and shining example to mentally handicapped people the world over. Go Meade!

Here's a thought experiment for all you people suggesting Meade get a job somewhere: ask yourself, is there anything _you_ would pay Meade to do for you?

I did this myself and realized there is nothing- not one single thing- that I would want Meade to do for me that I'd be willing to pay him to do.

It's pretty easy to extrapolate that if I don't want to hire Meade, then no one else would want to hire Meade, either.

or... he could go to school and learn something useful- nothing complicated, but something relatively simple like bookkeeping or basic web design.

Nevertheless Meade does not really need money as he is receives government disability payments. Meade's family is wealthy and despite his fathers false warnings/threats of impending poverty, they will always see that he is taken care of.

Parents would feel secure with Meade's eyes upon the children.

Meade is first and foremost an entertainer. Consider the fact that Meade's most popular videos contain little or no music. Meade is more comparable to Jack Benny, Sammy Davis Jr, Henny Youngman, Milton Berle, or Red Skelton than pure musical acts such as New Kids on the Block, or even Beethoven. The fact that Meade also writes songs, "sings", and bangs on a keyboard is just part of his overall act. Jack Benny was a decent violin player but that's not what made him famous. Red Skelton also sang and wrote songs but he is famous for being a clownish comedian -- just like his distant cousin Meade Skelton. Milton Berle was also technically a musician who sang and recorded a few singles for RCA and even wrote the scores to a couple Hollywood films early in his career. Jack Benny got his start in entertainment as a one-man violin comedy act in 1915, but eventually the fiddle became more of a prop. Just as Jack Benny was famous for his facial expressions and gestures, so too is Meade Skelton famous for his own "Chinese Thing", limp-wristed hand waving, and assorted goofiness.
