The Obama Administration wants to change No Child Left Behind, specifically the provisions about Adequate Yearly Progress...

I hope schools' feet are held to the fire, but agree that the goal of having every kid proficient by 2014 was idiotic. We know what guarantees a child's success in school...a stable home environment where parent(s) have an expectation that their kids succeed and who are able to help their kids study. This idea that teachers are somehow expected to do everything for every kid was always overly simplistic and unrealistic.
