Thinking about buying a AWD Ford Fusion but it's built in Mexico, wtf?

I like the car but not sure I want to buy a Mexican car. The Toyota Camry is made in the USA. Would it be more patriotic to buy the Toyota?

I have two Fusion hybrids: a 2014 and a 2015. The 2014 has just over fifty thousand miles; the 2015 just over thirty thousand. Both have been no trouble. I have kept to the manufacturer's recommendations on maintenance.

I have no experience with the All Wheel Drive.

One thing to note is that Consumer Reports seems to like all versions of the Fusion. That a Ford would achieve such a status with that publication is unusual, as Condemner Reports rarely likes anything that is not a Lexus, Audi or the little more than occasional Toyota. What is funny is that the Lexus is nothing more than a Toyota with a fancy price tag. Yes, it has those few hundred dollars worth of extra lights, buzzers and bells whose praises its defenders sing, but those are not worth the several thousand dollars more that you pay for the thing. As for the Audi, it is nothing more than a Volkswagen with a Mercedes-Benz price tag. It never ceases to amaze me that Condemner Reports can not see through all of that.

Who cares where it’s made? If you like the car and it is reliable, buy it. It’s not your responsibility to “buy American” if the American product is shit.

I would get the Lincoln mkz instead of the Fusion. Same basic car but the Lincoln looks and drives better. On top of that Lincoln will pick up and service your car and leave you a loaner even for oil changes. Ford does not do that.

+1 Obviously written by some loser who can't afford a luxury car. The difference between say a Toyota Camry and a Lexus ES/GS is night and day.

Get a Lincoln MKZ instead of a Fuzion. It's the same car with suspension upgrades and bling upgrades. The ride is as smooth as creamy butter. Yes it's built in Mexico just like the Fusion but what the hell. It's a great looking car too.

It supposedly means that the Target Market for the car is south america.

that's the story auto makers tell when people ask why they've built a factory in a foreign country: answer - it's closer to the point of sales

That Lincoln is a beautiful car, a work of art! I would love to own one but American cars are nothing but a headache and a money pit. My Honda has 350,000 miles on it and has needed nothing but tires, brakes, belts, a couple batteries. The damn thing never quits. I hope to drive it at least another 100,000. Maybe if I hit the lottery I would get me a Lincoln or maybe a Cadillac.

A friend has had the MKZ for 2 years now. The whole computer system has shut down and the dealer had it for several days. Then, the computer system crashed / shut down again and the dealer "tightened" all the sensors. The car was good for a few days, then the same issue. The dealer has the car again - but for over 2 weeks. The sad part is the VA Lemon Law only covers vehicles within 18 months of purchase and these issues are at the 2-year mark.

Also, the Fusion, while a great car, is an "end of the line" product. The only car that Ford will continue to manufacture is the Mustang. Gone is the Fiesta, Focus, Fusion and Taurus. The focus is on SUVs, crossovers and trucks.

before you buy google 'water pump destroys ford engine' - many ford products have the water pump placed where you have to pull the engine to change it. If the water pump fails on these it can destroy the engine. So its 2-3k to replace your waterpump (I can do my volvo in 45 min for 120 bucks in parts). I like a lot of these Ford products but I dont go for driving a car with a time bomb built in that is going to cost me 3-6k because of a water pump. f that

My 2010 Fusion had the water pump replaced at 105,000 miles as a preventative measure because my mechanic warned me of the problem you describe. It was $970 to get it replaced. The car now has 145,000 miles on it with no major problems.

Agreed, the only other option would be a 3 year lease where the vehicle would be under warranty the whole time.

Cars are assembled in Mexico, not built or made. The robot on the assembly line has a name like T100038529 not Jose. Any issues with these cars happened long before the first two pieces were attached to one another.

The only reason The Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan/Lincoln MKZ has been a decent car is because it was designed by Volvo. Same Goes for the ford 500 and it's Mercury clone. Now that ford and Volvo split in 2010 Fords quality has dropped off hard.

If you're in the market for a vehicle, buy Japanese (Toyota, Honda) or German(VW), preferably two to three years old.

Profit-motive. Mercedes prioritized profit over quality and suffered in sales, they've since returned to placing importance on quality and their sales have rebounded. What surprises me is the increase in popularity of Hyundai.

When it comes to cars and their performance and reliability, you have to evaluate each car on its own merits. The world has seen great and terrible cars come out of all countries. America has built great and terrible cars. Mexico, Germany, Japan, Korea, India, England all of them have built great and terrible cars.
