The use of military aircraft is very closely monitored by the Defense Department..approval for their use has to come from a relatively very high level.

The "cost" of using military can be decieving..they fly a lot of training hours...which technically means they would fly empty or full...so filling up with passengers is of little extra expense. When wives and kids attend..they do so at their own expense.

So maybe theres some meat here...but probably not. These people are not stupid.

Yeah I listened...be more specific then a cheap shot. WHat did I miss? So, what if they stayed at fancy hotels...government employees are given a standard rate for hotels and meals..stay in a hotel that costs more then the per diem rate...you pay for it out of pocket. You get a standard rate for meals...wife and kids go...you pay for their meals. Abuse of travel rgulations is the quickest way to find ytourself in jail...these people are usually smarter then that. His report on the surface is no basis to believe any laws were broken. It was just a cheap shot.

I think Nancy Pelosi is a disaster, but where is the expose on Sen. Imhofe flying to Copenhagen for a press conference that nobody attended?

Damn, you really are an idiot. Do you really think that these members of Congress were subject to the same travel restrictions as some group of GS'ers on business travel?

Yes...I do..as far as what the U.S. Governemnt is required to pay. I realize they often get their travel paid for by political contributors...but even then there are laws that restrict/limit the use of contributors money. But hey...your Supreme Court thinks thats hunky dorey without any limits! if you know any differently..provide a source.

Funny, I don't see your run-of-the-mill federal employees arranging for military transportation on their business trips.

I was as run of the mill as they come...and even I took military air many times. Like I said..the militiary's training hours program can be used for many other purposes. If a pilot needs to fly 1000 hours for training...why not give him/her a little cargo (human or otherwise) to move at the same time? The fact that you dont see it..doesnt mean it doesnt exist!

The Speaker of the House isn't a "run-of-the-mill" federal employee. Whether the Speaker is Nancy Pelosi or Denny Hastert.

1,000 hours for training!? LOL! You shouldn't hypothesize about things of which you have no knowledge.

Agreed, but that doesn't mean she/they should have spent that kind of money for that (basically worthless) trip.

Asi if the number 1,000 was the point. And oh by the way..thanks for taking the time to educate us on the "correct" number of training hours you republican fraud.

I don't have a basic problem with Congress having an official plane for "approved" travel - ie they have scheduled events that have to be approved and published by an office much like do for things like postal franking and such. Having it used for trips with family and such is getting to be a bit much. If these folks from Congress want their families to go, they can pay for them out of pocket to fly commercial - first class if they want, but they have to pay for it. Just because these folks get elected to office doesn't mean they are suddenly "royal" and deserve to have all their expenses paid.

Video teleconferencing has improved to the point where trips like this are pointless. The UN, and all these "official" bodies should have access to VTC technology and can hold these sessions whenever they need to. For all these folks that want to put on a "green" hat, they need to start walking the walk if they want to have any credibility. The fact that they are unwilling to inconvenience themselves to miss an opportunity to take an expensive trip for a meaningless gesture shows how out of touch they are with reality.

If you can’t model the past, where you know the answer pretty well, how can you model the future? - William Happer Cyrus Fogg Brackett Professor of Physics Princeton University

As a run of the mill government employee you would have no clue how much people like the Speaker pays for their flights. Why don't you shut the fuck up when you don't have a clue asshole. Maybe you can enlighten us as to how you made use of "military air" and where you flew to since you know so much about how they operate.

All I can say is, Fuck Copenhagen. Did anyone read that "Der Spiegel" piece on the climate talks? They were calling us greedy, simply because we as Americans don't want to hand the rest of the world our money for some BS. Bunch of Socialist shits they are.

Such as, um, Speaker of the House of Representatives? Do you think DoD would say no to her?

The Copenhagen flights were not labeled as "for training" by anyone.

Except when extra space is "available" or the room/car/etc. is already paid for.

That's not how it worked for the Copenhagen trip.

They write their own rules. So technically, none were violated.

You have made that very clear over the past two years.

That's either a lie or someone hated your ass. GS employees fly commercial, not Space A.

While watching Fox News on saturday, one of the pundits was screaming about this. He ignored the other pundit who said Bush put the policy in place. He said "if she is worried about security, she can fly under an assumed name"

No one challenged this statement. I do not care if you are Gravis or the prince of Wales. It is highly illegal to fly under an assumed name. Joan rivers was detained at an airport in Panama recently for doing just that.

The British recently had a scandal where they Daily Telegraph
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/mps-expenses/ exposed bogus charges to spending accounts given to MPs. Some of them were buying extra homes, filing bogus claims, refinishing their kitchens/bathrooms, etc,etc with the money. After the exposure, there's now a bunch of 'inquiries' and changes to the way the expense accounts are audited. When this happened I thought..."I bet this is happening in the US too"

I wonder which news organization will make their name exposing this crap?

The odds are 100 to 1 that no laws were broken! It's just an easy target for commentators who have to say something 24/7.

I think the argument is that we disproportiontely use carbon based fuels...that we benifited from our Industrial Revolution without having to limit growth. It is the U.S. that is asking countries such as CHina..India...farmers in the Amazon to sacrifice their inividual benifit in order for the entire world to benifit. Seems to me we Modern Western countries) are the socialist and them the capitalist.
