The Russian trolls such as Gerrymanderer2 use VPS to connect to the site. Their employer provides the service and gives them instructions on how to connect to the VPS, then verify their IP address before connecting to Fairfax Underground or whatever site they are spamming.

Using a VPS makes it appear the post originates from the US, when in fact Gerry is sitting in some shithole like St. Petersburg.
