What new or new to you bands are you feeling lately? I like how varied the taste is on here.

Anyone else find Silversun Pickups to resemble very early Smashing Pumpkins? That's not a bad thing (IMHO).

The band I've been turned onto most recently:

MGMT
Black Lab
My Morning Jacket
Kasabian

And, not that it's exactly new, but I've been re-discovering Roy Orbison. Dude is fucking amazing.

Speaking of music, there was a hilarious article on Cracked.com a couple of days ago. It was about white guys and the bullshit talent they inflict on the acoustic guitar. http://www.cracked.com/funny-3689-acoustic-guitar/

It reminded me of a lot of cafes and pretentious clubs that have self-important "local artists" perform.

Just The Facts

1. The six-string acoustic guitar (or Spanish/Classical Guitar) is a staple of western music.
2. There are many different types of acoustic. The main differences being the number of strings and the amount of indie cred you get for having one.
3. The chief benefit of an acoustic guitar is the freedom of movement that allows you to be a douchebag wherever you please, regardless of electrical access!
4. At least 65% of the male population has owned an acoustic guitar at one time. For white males, the number is 179%.

Blessed are the murderous.

Holy shit! I'm "Crazy Guy On The Street Corner!"

Your jealousy is palpable, Furfur. I have a lot of fun doing what I do. I didn't give you shit for sitting home alone on a Saturday night watching a movie on iTunes, did I?

Yeah, I much rather see the most cracked out Straw suckin' American, white or not, playing his guitar.
Rather than see some pancho wearin' sombrero chuckin' illegal alien under a tree so drunk he cant even execute the strum motion much less play anything that doesn't resemble circus music.

Ok, what if I'm not a poncho-wearin', sombrero-chuckin', illegal alien? Can I still play so drunk under a tree that I can't even strum?

Because that happens to me all the time. If it's not socially acceptable, I'll think about quitting.

Oh no, I've seen some true talent on occasion, but between the performers I've seen at Apple stores, Jammin' Java, and other pseudo-hipster places, I've lost my faith in indie white guys and their music.

Blessed are the murderous.

Blisters - Two of my favorite classic rock bands! Yay!

Mephisto - Nice taste, home slice! I have recently purchased two of those bands, and LOVE Roy Orbison! He has some amazing songs. Unfortunately, most people just think of Pretty Woman which is so overplayed. Roy got me thinking about The Traveling Wilbury's which leads me to Tom Petty... Yay music! :o)

Pretentious coffee house pricks go all the way back to the early 60's and the beat scene, but there have also been people (white and otherwise) that were and are singing and playing acoustic guitar with substance and great talent.

The point is, don't let a few assholes with an acoustic guitar and stars in their eyes convince you that having and playing one is bad.

Everyone knows I like the reggae and the ska. I hate (and of course there are a few exceptions) 'rock' music...this includes alt rock, classic rock, and in particular indie rock. I've said it before and I'll say it again: rock music post-'rock 'n roll' (Chuck Berry and his ilk) is music for honkies, by honkies. No rhythm, no soul, no beat, no good. Patti Smith's "Horses"? More like "Horse Shit". Neil Young and his lambchop sideburns and old lady falsetto? Give me a break. The abysmal state of rock music post 1950's rhythm & blues and rockabilly is all the explanation you need for why almost no black people play the guitar or sing in rock bands. I couldn't be happier that rock is dying out, even if it is being overtaken by the equally horrendous commercial hip-hop of Lil' Wayne and Soulja Boy Tell 'Em. I'd take that shit over U2 and The White Stripes any day.

Rock blows! Death to 'Rock' music! Long live 'Rock 'n Roll'!

Now, this I like. Rhythm, soul, life, energy. Everything that so much of the new music today lacks. Like the Joker said, 'why so serious?'. What ever happened to feel good music?
