We already have such an agency. It is called the NSA.

Not exactly. NSA just collects SIGINT from perceived threats and interprets the data. They don't really "play defense". Their ability to hack other nation's databases is substantial, but they don't really have the capability to prevent such attacks on the country. It isn't really their job. That's more DHS and the FBI although as the article states, both have too broad a portfolio of responsibilities to adequately handle foreign cyber threats.

Trump's Russian handlers would never allow this, because then they would be denied access to our democratic processes.

There already are some agencies who specialize in this field. But, they deal with larger scale problems than one simple user can encounter on a daily basis. To be safe I would recommend to go through a cyber security training course, I find https://blueteam.academy/ to offer the best ones. These days it's nearly impossible to hope for a somewhat relative security on the internet without knowing the basis of cyber security. There they'll teach you about vpns, proxies and many other interesting enough things.

I believe that's what the NSA does.

Hello! JavieCoentr has a point here, I also know about several agencies who provide the cyber security shield. I am not sure whether they are committed to the state in any way. Take fidusinfosec.com for example, they provide cyber security trainings and offer their services to the public. You find the need for such an agency unless you have a business of your own that uses the internet as the main way to sell your products. My brother works at a law firm and they also have a cyber security agency which does some kind of audit for them.

Useful post, thanks a lot. Anyway, now I need to have the best security for my software, so if somebody has any idea about it, just share with me. I'll be really glad!

You do not know what you do not know. United States Cyber Command https://www.cybercom.mil/. Now run along and get breakfast from your mommy before she goes to work.

cyber is even worse than the "17 intelligence agencies" crap quoted by whore hillary

cyber teams exist pretty much in any agency and they are some of the most clueless time and dollar wasting fucks in the history of government and THAT is saying something

sure national cyber command claims to be the head...and they probably waste the most money and time with everyone having to respond to their keystone cop edicts which somehow never stop shit like snowden or the current gasline shutdown

cyber loves lockdowns in response to ambiguous non threats meanwhile the family is tied up in the basement and being defiled

imagine trying to build a house with 5 tradesman and 100 housing inspectors....that is our IT state of house in DOD and STILL the building is not even close to cyber proof

That is pretty much true of any organization in tech. Private sector or government. Only a handful of people really know what’s going on. The rest are just faking it till they make it. That’s just the nature of anything cyber and also software.

what is crazy is that they are very proud of keeping developers away from production systems, because they don't trust developers who probably know the most overall since they have to write the code that deals with all systems

but they give the keys to the kingdom to the cyber people who typically know the least about systems (below developers, os admins, db admins, network admins..)

and then look at what the cyber geniuses did most recently...

they approved solar winds? remote control software for computers in dod, commerce, etc...and the hackers bypassed all controls through this software to get complete control of machines

another genius move is that in most agencies full government developers are given very limited access, which makes their job of debugging and development a real pain in the ass...but sysadmin contractors who are not as vetted have access to everything

and guess what ? snowden was a contractor NOT a govie

Snowden was an anomaly. Most contractors get with the program and more or less do a decent enough job. Part of the problem as you pointed out is all the hoops and unnecessary checks and balances big gov puts on the whole infrastructure which makes it harder to manage. Another problem is there just aren't enough bodies to mind all the gaps in our systems.

never said most contractors aren't trustworthy...but snowden was a contractor

i actually agree that snowden is a legitimate whistleblower for much of the information he released and the intel agencies should do most of the dancing in the fire...but he still did cause damage too and for that he should pay

of course most contractors keep their word just like any profession...but it is the small percent that don't that cause most damage and giving keys to kingdom to individuals is not smart

have individuals with deep and wide access work on buddy teams and mix the teams up every few months would be a much better way to keep them honest
