Was steak and ale really that great of a restaurant?

My grandfather speaks of it fondly and whenever my family and I take him out to eat, he always compares where we are eating unfavorably to s&a.

Steak & Ale was at the lower end of the Ground Round, Bennigan's, fern bar restaurant segment. They were about a half step up from Chili's.

Steak and Ale was a shithole. Gramps was side banging one of the waitresses
And has fond memories of her blow jobs. You have to give the senile old bastard credit though.

The beer was cheaper than other restaurants....

In it's day it fit the mid scale market...in 1966 it was one of the first to have Salad Bars. He (Norman Brinker) went on to start Bennigan's and a whole crapload of other concepts.
