9mm or .45?

Newer question being played out everywhere. I like both. I have a 9mm pistol and a 1911 in .45 and love them both. Have an HK .45 Carbine and a Micro Roni for Glock 9mm. Both are awesome.

Would like to standardize but don't think thats really possible. What do my fellow FFXU's standardize on?

9mm for me.

Not enough of a difference in practical power anymore to worry about so greater capacity/smaller package for the same capacity wins.

I like my 1911 that I've had forever but objectively my 9s are better guns in most all ways.

I forgot cost. Big difference there too.

But the .45 sure is fun to shoot. Something about the feel of it that the 9 just doesn't have. Call it authority.

Forget standardizing. For shooting on an indoor range, 9mm Walther. For self defense I would go with the 45. For pure fun shooting outdoors a Colt Army model 1860 firing 44 black powder or a Mauser 7.63 with attached stock.

I am a retired paramedic (28 years) I have seen people shot with all calibers. Bottom line for personal protection. .40, .45, .357. Save your 9mm & .38 for plinking beer cans.

.45 for stopping power. You can plug someone with half dozen 9mm's and they will keep coming. .45 knocks em off their feet with one shot.

terrible for home defense though as if you miss either round will go through the walls of your house striking family members. Shotgun is the way to go for your home.
