Why doesn't anyone take Meade Skelton seriously?

He deserves to be respected. Why does everyone treat him like a joke? So the guy has made a few mistakes in the past. How about focusing on his successes rather than his failures.

Meade has had success as a solo performer, composer, and producer. He has sold records.

Lot of people do. He is controversial, some say a "radical" others call him "joker", he is what he is, what we have made him. There is a fine line between genius and insanity. If he was a living in the 1960s he would have been a "flower child" no doubt.

Heavy pot and drug use might explain Meade's current mental degradation.
However, I just don't see Meade flopping around in mud with a bunch of parents of illegitimate children during Woodstock.
