metro is always hailed as "necessary because mass transportation saves fuel"
but in ANY COUNTRY they are ever made: they always end tits up in debt and costing MORE fuel (credits) than automobiles and today: outright more $/mile than automobiles as well. tits up and fucking your wife is the analogy.

If Elon does this and finds his profit at the $1 / rider mark - he'll turn government upside, spank them with huge shame. Governments would pay him to raise his fees and claim he'd been lying to avoid the pain of the spank.
